Many of the components in a smartphone cost more than assembly, so why not call the maker of the display or the NAND the "manufacturer"? Those parts and how they're assembled have been designed, ordered and paid for by the real manufacturers to their specifications. If you don't think that any of these phone companies are actually "manufacturers" because they contract out assembly of their products, you basically think that intellectual property has no value and nothing is worth more than the sum of its parts. Time to wake up and smell the information economy.

Yes, I understand that, but I still think that there are others more suited for "Best Manufacturer" besides Apple.

There are companies out there that not only design their products, but also build the parts for it are there not?

Are there not other companies that not only design and build their own product, but also build products for their competitors?

I just disagree with how they may have come to their conclusion of Apple being the top dog in that category.

Who knows, I may be competely wrong in what I am saying and they are basing this entirely off of Apple and their iOS, considering how most Android OS are not much more than modified code given by Google? Apple unlike Samsung, HTC, etc... created their OS by themselves.

I posted the articles before I actually read them. For which I would have had a different title in hindsigt. I simply posted them as soon as I saw them.

But its ok, because I actually have a life outside of 'thinking' I'm bigger than the users here and am fully happy with the knowledge I should have read the articles through first.

Of course it matters now. Contradicting behaviour and statements like that is one of the main reasons online forums were invented... :)

Lets also ignore the fact android and window are catching up in the number of quality apps (key word quality) given the time frame that they are in verses apple. 

(The statement above deals with windows, since android is going strong in the app department)

I see a lot of people complaining about the OP and Selnor, but what I really think is that a few people can't stand the fact that wp7 is doing rather good ;). After having tested the three devices I can say I like the UI of wp7 the best. It's just so fast ( and original). Now yes you can say not many apps blabla... But the point is in every factor that isn't time based ( ex: number of apps) microsoft is either better than apple or google or they are the same. And this is an important fact that many haters often like to 'forget'

Who cares about these awards anyway? They are lamer than GOTY awards.

I use all 3 OSs frequently, and as already mentioned, all are excellent enough for daily use.

Samsung and HTC do a fair amount of development on their custom UIs, built-in apps, and integrating their hardware with the software. If a little tweaking of the Android source was all that was required, I would think official Android software updates would not be such a rare thing.

But for an award like "Best Manufacturer", they're probably going off of things like build quality, product support, maybe reliability and customer satisfaction. Apple's big advantage here is the support network provided in Apple stores.
