Forums - Gaming - LBP2 not nominated for GOTY...anywhere? WTF!?

Ssliasil said:
MM announced awhile ago that the average LBP2 level-creator put in about 4 times as much time into LBP2 than the average time that is put into any shooter by an "hardcore" player.

I just don't understand how this game hasn't even gotten mentioned, I'm baffled.

Depends on what they classify "hardcore' player i'd think.

You'd be surprised just how low the average hours played for some games are.

For example I'd qualify as a hardcore gamer on just about any measure but there are COUNTLESS games where i have somewhere between 1-15 minutes played because i just played a short burst of it to get an idea of the game for when i have the time to go back to it from my backlog.

Oh, really? Too much time on their hands and being more vocal wouldn't result in more votes for Skyrim? Really now...you're stretching it. Skyrim would be boosted by all of the PC gamers too, MW3 most definitely would not. In fact, don't you think we should try it on this site and see what happens? Even with the small PC audience I'm pretty sure that Skyrim would win in a "popularity" contest. The voting doesn't happen on facebook or some social site where MW3 could win Skyrim in a voting contest. The voting happens where a lot of dedicated gamers reside, on gaming sites/forums.

You're missing the point. Skyrim was the most critically acclaimed game of the year. That had the biggest impact for it to become the GOTY. Whiny gamers don't determine the meta scores.

If it was a popularity contest than the most popular game would win. Which would be MW3.

Since nobody is actually answering this question I will. This year was huge in games.

Gears of War 3
Portal 2
Skyrim
Batman ArkhamCity
Battlefield 3
Modern Warfare 3
Uncharted 3
Mortal Kombat
Rage
Dead Island
Killzone 3
Resistance 3
Forza 4

And the list goes on and on. I love LBP but it does not deserve game of the year. Let's see, its a sequel so it lost it's originality and more of the same. Storyline, barely.

All the Games that got nominated were very well deserved. Gears 3 is the only one that people were baffled about. On Machinima Gears 3 won 3 awards and 1 being GoTY.

dont want to start any fanboy war or list wars... but Machinima are hardly objective non biased company. they are hige xbox fanboys.

most of them hardly even know what a playstation is. heck when the last time you saw them do videos of a ps3 game? heck, just watch the video they did of the Uncharted 3 summer beta. none of them knew how to play, new the buttons or anything. in one scene the guy tries to use a zipline, and the on screen prompt says to press "X" and all you see is Nathan drake meleeing over and over again. and the guy gives up trying to use the zipline. it because the guy was pressing the mellee button which is Square, which is the same location as "X" on xbox. also none of the guys knew how to reload, they kept pressing mellee, and not once figured it out.

none of them use a ps3, or at the very least use it with any frequency.

they dont care about ps3, or play the ps3.

My point is that Gears is an amazing game and I don't care if you like 360 or not you can still see that.  One of the best stories of this gen a long with a great multiplayer.  And if you haven't noticed it is also the best rated shooter of the year.  Beat out both Battlefield and Call of duty.

If you don't count Uncharted 3, that is.

I was talking about 360.  And Gears has better shooting elements than Uncharted easily.  I love Uncharted but that is because the story, not the shooting.

thats very much opinion. one that I whole heartedly disagree with. for me Uncharted by has the best third person shooting elements out of any game.

Chill with your opinion friend. Uncharted 3 is my favourite MP of this generation. It would not have been possible without a core element : Shooting.

Sales ultimately determine popularity. I mean if someone wanted to know the most popular album of 2011, you would assume they mean sales.

But I'm done with this discussion. I just keep making the same point in different ways.

Agreed. Uncharted does get a slightly bad rep when it comes to shooting mechanics. A lot of people think of the cinematic experiences & platforming as the highlights of the series and oftentimes declare the shooting as mediocre. I personally believe Uncharted has the best shooting mechanics of any third-person game, and I don't see how anyone could declare it mediocre. It just handles so smooth & responsive, even when compared to Gears. It's espescially impossible to delcare one (Uncharted or Gears) as 'easily' superior since they're clearly offering differing experiences. I really don't think Uncharted's shooting could be declared mediocre by any objective measure. Note: this isn't completely in a reply to Jay, I just felt like saying this.

OT: I'm not the one to get upset over my favorite games not receiving a certain award or score, but this is pretty odd. LittleBigPlanet 2 is an excellent game, it's an unanimous improvement over the 2008 winner, and was met with critical acclaim pretty much everywhere. It's kind of shocking that the game has received NO nominations (not wins, but nominations) from ANY websites. Just based on the sheer number of nominations created, it should have received a few nominations. But I guess that's what happens when you release in January and have so many breathtaking games released in the next 11 months.

I believe Pezus is referring to popularity as in popularity from the community that actually cares about GoTY awards (which usually involves fairly informed gamers) not the popularity of everyone who plays games, most of which don't even know these type of awards even exist.

I was just pointing out to someone else that GOTY is not a popularity contest. GOTY is determined primarily by the critics. Coincidentally, the games chosen generally have the best meta scores.

Mass Effect 2 for example caught a lot of flack on the interweb. Didn't have mega sales. Yet it managed to be awarded GOTY by many publications. It was far from the most popular game of 2010, it was just selected for being concentrated awesome.

Have you all even played gears 3?  I know this is a huge sony site as it has prooved time and time again.  And I am not talking about playing one time, but actually owning it and being able to play hours upon hours. I own uncharted and its one of my favorite games, but their is a reason it is listed as an action adventure.  The main focus is not about shooting.
