Actualy it does have a story, it just dont tell you the story,you have to grasp it by yourself. Paying atention to the scenary, talking to every NPC multiple times and reading al the info contained on every single iten description helps you figure out most of it, there are somethings that are most guesswork tough as they are never made clear.

All the Games that got nominated were very well deserved. Gears 3 is the only one that people were baffled about. On Machinima Gears 3 won 3 awards and 1 being GoTY.

dont want to start any fanboy war or list wars... but Machinima are hardly objective non biased company. they are hige xbox fanboys.

most of them hardly even know what a playstation is. heck when the last time you saw them do videos of a ps3 game? heck, just watch the video they did of the Uncharted 3 summer beta. none of them knew how to play, new the buttons or anything. in one scene the guy tries to use a zipline, and the on screen prompt says to press "X" and all you see is Nathan drake meleeing over and over again. and the guy gives up trying to use the zipline. it because the guy was pressing the mellee button which is Square, which is the same location as "X" on xbox. also none of the guys knew how to reload, they kept pressing mellee, and not once figured it out.

none of them use a ps3, or at the very least use it with any frequency.

they dont care about ps3, or play the ps3.

My point is that Gears is an amazing game and I don't care if you like 360 or not you can still see that.  One of the best stories of this gen a long with a great multiplayer.  And if you haven't noticed it is also the best rated shooter of the year.  Beat out both Battlefield and Call of duty.

LBP2 belongs in that list. Especially since you name DEAD ISLAND and Rage and Mortal Kombat. Best PS3 games this year: Uncharted 3, Batman, Portal 2, LBP2, BF3/Resistance3. LBP2 fully deserves a place there and I'm sure that if LBP2 had launched later in the year it'd have a lot more nominations/awards.

lol I was listing other games besides LBP2.  I love LBP2 but it really isn't in the top 5 games of this year.  VGA may be a popularity contest as far as voting but the nominations are usually very well done, for the most part anyways.

I was refering to a deep written story with complex characters when I said story. Dark Souls has everything you said plus the NPCs are all static. Not that its a bad thing, its just not a full body of work with complexity like Skyrim which is apparently the only factor giving the game high scores since no reviewers played the game long enough to see the broken and full of bugs game awaiting.

If it was based on popularlity than CoD would have won. Skyrim was just hands down the best game of the year.

Internet or forum hardcore gamers obviously don't like Cod. Check out lots of social gaming sites or even non-gaming sites like Reddit and Skyrim is hugely popular and MW is shit upon. This is about internet popularity, not general popularity.

Excellent bullcrap excuse. MW3 has record breaking sales and great reviews but you think internet whiners have the final say. These whiners on the internet are not the majority, far from it. They just happen to be the most vocal due to having too much time on their hands.

Perhaps Skyrim deserves to be GOTY because it may be the best reviewed game of the year. But if this is a popularity contest, Skyrim lost.

What I find extremely funny is reading people's comments about Cod, pretty much bashing the game and then saying that they bought it because their friends did. I really don't get this mentality.

Anyway, on topic: I think LBP2 had a fate similar to U3. Both superb games, but overshadowed by the hype of the previous installments. Kind of the same with Dark Souls.

Game sites and Award Shows want hits and controversy. If movie awards were fair, Meril Streep would probably win every year, which would be totally boring for viewers (and would reflect on the ratings). That's why she gets nominated, but doesn't win all the time.

After Uncharted 2 won so many GOTY awards, I knew that the critics would be harsh with U3 and that it wouldn't get the awards it deserves. Most reviewers mention that LBP2 was significantly better than LBP. Not just more of the same. Same with SMG1 and 2. The second was also superb, according to reviewers, but did it get any awards? What about Forza 3 and 4?
