I think one reason the PS2 has had such an impressive legacy is because of the Wii.

The Wii is the current market leader and is comparible in power to the PS2. Its because of this that the PS2 still got so much support in its twilight years. 3rd parties were making Wii games that could easily be ported to the PS2.

The Wii wont have anywhere near as an impressive tail as the PS2. Nintendo have never been able to support older hardware once they release a new one. Remember the GameBoy micro?

This is a good point. The Wii may be able to infiltrate into many new homes if the cards are played right.

I think the wii will continue to sell well during the holidays for at least a few more years. The wii u won't be priced cheap initially and there will always be a market for super cheap consoles as christmas gifts. The ps3 doesn't really have much casual appeal at least in the United States and will take a while to drop to $100, and the xbox with kinect will be much more expensive then the wii for a while so the wii will be the console of choice for cash strapped parents for at least a few more years.

It makes sense.. Nintendo can do game bundles, VC bundles, wii-board bundles, mayby a netflix bundle. Or they could let samsung or an other tv manufactor, put it in a tv.. Many options yet.. And there's a lot of games out there.
ps2 is stil selling, and sold almost 40 mill after ps3 was out, and wii will probely do the same. for sure 3-4 years.
Same whit ds and dsxl.. i predict ds series to reach 180-200 mill. and wii to at least 125 mill

I think that due to the wiis low price point ,some of the HD gamers that have never experienced wii may pick one up to play the critically acclaimed titles like the mario galaxies,zelda and metroid games.I have a friend who owns a 360 and used to continually bash the wii,one day he picked one up on impulse and now he says "you know what?that wii isnt so bad after all"

Wii isn't even $99 yet.

The majority of people buying at that price won't be the kind that gets consoles at launch or in it's first couple of years.

Pretty much this, when has Ninty ever kept a console long after the launch of a new one?? Sony seems to be the only one doing it. People think it will last for years?? Please. First off Ninty would have to actually make games for Wii and seeing as they already moved Pikmin3 which was supposed to come out for Wii god knows how long ago. 3rd parties barely support the damn thing now and people think they will in the future?? Ok

Nintendo are doing their best to kill it at the moment - I don't think the Wii will live on much longer
