Third parties have rarely made an effort on the console since it launched, and Nintendo has essentially given up on it [Wii] already (they don't really have the resources to hold up two consoles without any help) as such there will be nothing to hold the console up.

Maybe if a significant number of Wii's start failing a-la PS2, people will be picking up replacement hardware, but otherwise it would have to rely on the few people who like to pick up consoles cheap at the end of the generation.

But will those Disney type games be enough to move alot of hardware?? Wouldnt those kids that are interested in that crap be the same ones to see a Wii U commercial and say "to hell with Wii, I want that new thing?"

When Nintendo somtimes ( i think 2013-14) pull it.. There will still be 5 -10 mill wii's in the shops.. meaning the people who wants a (extrem) cheap consol.. proberly bundlet whit a lot of games... or a replacment for the litle sister (you know.. we have all these games, and the wii-u.. is to expensive) still have time..
And remember. people still plays n64 and GC.. why should they sudently hate, something better and smother..? The AAA wii titles, will be played for a 100 years. And wii will reach minimum 120 mill, and more if they start shipping to the poor contries, they havent yet.

At $99, my answer is yes. A $99 Wii with lots of kid friendly games can become the ideal relatively inexpensive and kid friendly present for many people. That can actually move a lot of hardware. Gamers of course will go for the WiiU or something else.

I think that's what Nintendo are aiming for. Want an inexpensive child friendly console with a nice library of games? Get a Wii. Ready to move on? Get a WiiU, your entire investment, both in games and peripherals, can be used on it, nothing is lost. I think it's brilliant - as to whether it will work only time will tell, a lot depends on implementation (I think they will need to keep marketing the Wii to a certain extent).

No they haven't started shipping to the poor countries, but I don't think they will either, they just don't have the infrastructure. The reason Sony does is that, as an electronics giant, they have a presence almost anywhere in the world.

But will the kids want that "old" Wii, kids dont give a damn about the price, trust me. Its not like its there own money. THey will ask there mommy and daddy for the new hot toy. That will be Wii U, not the years old Wii that they probably have. Now will the parents buy it for them?? Remains to be seen, but from what I have seen the parents will cave. IMHO

No. Wii sales are already plummeting.
Once the Wii U comes out it will completely die out.

$99.99 Wii with a new game bundled (DKC Returns?) next Christmas will probably do well with bargain hunters and parents looking for affordable gifts for kids and soccer moms looking for a cheap way to have Just Dance parties or get some new Zumba "game". 

If I got a 7-year-old kid and I'm looking to buy him his first game console, a cheap Wii sure as heck probably looks pretty darn good come Black Friday next year.

Wii U will probably be 3x that price and appeal to a different demo. Early adopters, tech hipsters, spoiled rich kids, Nintendo fanatics, etc.

Anything's possible, but with how slow games are coming out for Wii right now I doubt the system will be supported after Wii U arrives.

Its hard to say, part of the reason the PS2 can still be kinda relavent now is because when it was release it was state of the art tech, the Wii was dated from the day one. I think the 360 will be the cheap parent choice from here on out. Nintendo can try and milk the Wii all they want but you will not see new Wiis being sold with 18 months of the WiiU being released. Nintendo needs to release that they will live or die by the WiiU, I like the fact they are making the tech in the WiiU far superior to the current gen, while it will not be state of the art it will be an upgrade from the PS3 and 360 in the graphics department. This will give Nintendo a change to go after a market they have not had a shot at since about 1996... the early adopter techies that have to have the best thing avialable. The WiiU's 1st year it will have the best looking COD, Madden, etc this will hopefully give the WiiU a foothold.
