Forums - Sony - Uncharted 3 . . . Were We The Ones That Were Deceived?

I will play this game myself and see. I have the game but I need to finish Uc2. Going by that Youtube video there is a big drop. I wonder how it compares to other similar games out there.

Hmmm. I don't think that the game looks as anywhere near as bad as that, certainly not from my memory of playing it on my TV. But yes it isn't as good in gameplay as the ones on the left either... those are cut scene standard from the game.

I do think that people are sometimes guilty of saying look how wonderful it is and then showing a cut scene. the cut scenes look significantly better than gameplay. Which is why the ad in the Uk had "representative of gameplay" plastered all over it. But people do that for lots of games from all systems.

I dont know, theres a couple time it took me a few seconds to realise I was in gameplay and not in a cutscene anymore. Better, yeah probably, but significantly better sound exagerate to me.

I'll admit to this, I love pre-rendered cutscenes and going on about how great they look.

Naughty Dog have done a pretty good job at narrowing the gap. Actually, I would say the best looking part of the game is in-game.

by the way i took all these from Phone not a straight screenshot, as you can see they're the same as the "Crappy" photos (like you guys say) that OP has posted.

they really rushed this one, but everyone is praising them.

aren't you the same guy constantly praising skyrim... you know... the game full of bugs and glitches...

I agree, the sea stage is the best ive seen. They did more then other games and with better visual, they do deserve some praise. Surely we can find some lower textures in some specific instance but who cares?!? I mean, we could also post thousands of screenshot where it looks stunning.

"one has to take a step back and really look at what your looking at"

Please tell me why gamers have to do this? We are not digital foundry, lens of truth etc. So please tell me why we have to do this? And how exactly do you REALLY look at what you looking at? Either you looking at something or not looking at something. I guess you mean look closer...but again why?

You might say I'm nitpicking your argument by only focusing on one sentence, but really this is what your entire argument is based on "Lets look as close as possible to the uncharted graphics and compare..." so il respond just to that.

The thing is the majority of gamers do not stop the camera and move it in all sorts of weird ways to get the closest picture they can get to see the textures...not to mention these are cutscenes and unless the player is pausing the game they again wont be able to "really look at what they are seeing".

Naughty dog does not make games so that people on a gaming forum can pay such close attention to detail on a scene thats not meant to be looked at at a certain way or for a certain duration. All they are worried about is how the game looks to the player while playing the game NOT while comparing screenshots . By doing this, they can then reallocate system resources to parts which the player actually does notice...like effects, level structure, AI etc.

To be honest though Uncharted has always been more about aesthetics than raw graphical fidelity. The reason why many people claim uncharted to be the console graphics king, is precisely because of this, the overall look of the game, which is beautiful (many reviews actually refer to the game as being beautiful). This then falls back on the argument of aesthetics versus graphic fidelity, but lets face it in reality the majority of gamers don't nitpick screenshots. So in my view uncharted is rightfully labelled graphics king or whatever it is they call it these days.

I also don't see the correlation between textures or graphic fidelity and a developers credibility or status. So to people saying naughty dog are overated blah blah blah....uhm....WTF? If you ever though naughty dog were great because of the graphics of uncharted then your a real idiot. Its not like naughty dog run around telling people "look how amazing our game looks, we so cool, our game looks the best graphically etc" gamers do that. Naughty dog simply makes the game and puts it out there for people to play and hope that people like the game. And based on reviews, general internet opinions, general real life opinions, hell even sales....the games is pretty darn great.

I'm no graphics expert but all I know is that both Chloe and Elena looked much better in Uncharted 2. In UC3, they look like they had unnecessary plastic surgery.

Not 'everyone' is praising the game. This obvious exaggeration, your persistent digs at the game, accompanied with your off topic rant about Uncharted's weak plot in a thread about puzzles, lead me to believe you're actively searching for oppurtunities to complain about the game.

I don't know what Uncharted did to you, but I'm sorry

Yes i am, are you comparing Uncharted to Skyrim?

now do you think it is fair that i say Gran turismo has less glitches than Uncharted? thats what you are doing, comparing a linear scripted small 10 hour game to a massive unscripted huge 100 hour game

now if you want to compare it with something i say Uncharted 2 , which is exactly what i am doing.

Lol, this is ontopic , i'm talking about it being rushed, like the OP is saying, now offtopic is what happened here

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=137149&page=1#

when i was talking about skyrim then someone who knows himself went on and said "NAUGHTY DOGS ARE GODS!" THAT is offtopic.

by i like Uncharted i enjoyed all the games and when i played them i couldn't leave the controller down, but i think its overrated, especially 3 in its graphics, 2's graphic were polished a lot , so was 1's but 3 is rushed, and the one on Vita looks like it is more polished from as far as we've seen which is a shame for naughty dog.

[...]  (and btw, Uncharted 3 cutscenes are rendered on the engine, not prerendered CGs).

They are video files made with the game's engine, they are not rendered in real time, hence, prerendered.
