Forums - Gaming - Skyrim Issues? Duh, of course, but has the smoking gun finally been found?

I prefer the lost in graphic over the framerate and short freeze I was getting. But I do hope they are working to enhance both. The framerate is not flawless even so. Im still satisfy with the patch though. I only hope the issue will not come back once my save file is even bigger.

Patch 1.02 solves the lag but at great cost. Lighting and draw distance have taken a big hit and water now looks like a joke seen from a distance.
All they needed to do was clean up the mess, remove the old corpses and don't remember every little thing you misplaced or knocked over. Instead the graphics settings have been pared back by a lot.
Don't install this patch until you can't stand the lag anymore...

After looking at the sky when it look like the aurora borealis I agree with you 100%. The definantly made the graphics worse to get a better framerate. Not very happy that they cannot make the game on par with the 360, but still it is a great game.

The lag isn't gone yet either, today it hit hard again. I had to escape Solitude quickly after doing an assasination assignment and it ran at 2 fps while running through town with the guards after me.

It does run better most of the time, for example the map pulls up instantly again instead of taking 3 seconds to stutter into place. The pop up and textures streaming in are a lot more visible though. After zoning into Markath from Understone keep it took almost 10 seconds before the waterfall loaded in with a weird hall of mirrors effect in place until then.

Other things I noticed is that my magic resistence seems to be less now, or maybe they hit harder. And old corpses are still there in dungeons but I can't loot them anymore. It stills says press x on a corpse but nothing happens.

Maybe I'll finish up the two guild quest lines with my high level character then delete the patch and start a new character to do the main quest. Seems restarting is the only way to get good performance.

Damn this confirm what I feared, the issue is still important on higher size save file. Mine doesnt work flawlessly at 8mb, but if it were to remain with that performance its not a big deal. I guess your pass 10 mb by now?

And Svennoj, did your forward power hit changed too. If I do a power hit while moving forward my character will bash for a long distance before hitting. Now its really hard to hit monsters with them. I usually pass through and hit in the middle of nowhere. Are you experiencing the same thing? Ill have to check for change in magic resistance.

I was at 13mb, patch took ik back down to 12. I'm lvl 48.

I don't know since I play a mage. My spells do seem less powerful, takes more hits to take them down. Or maybe they tweaked the autolevelling? I suddenly get a lot more higher level enemies then I was used to. That would explain the harder magic hits as well.

It's oblivion all over again, petty thiefs with their glass armor everywhere. I wonder if they'll be wearing dragon scale armor next.

If your talking about the wedding assasination that was the worst lag I got in the entire game. So I loaded an earlier point because I didn't want to run from the mob with all the lag and have not got back to it. Probably will just play until it is a total mess (if that happens) whether I finish the main quest or not. One thing is for sure Bethesda will lose money on downloadable content if they do not fix the problem further as I have no intention of starting over soon.

I have not noticed the game being any worse the lag is fine as I just reached 8mb, but it does seem they did not prepare this game for long term play. Which is stupid because that is one of the games greatest qualities. Hopefully by if the game becomes unplayable (if it does) I will be satisfied with my journey. If I didn't like supporting Sony I could have gone 360, but I hate to give them money as I fell they do not make enough original IPs just for their platform that I love. Might have to rethink that for the next Bethesda game, still I find it annoying.

My problems on the 360 are far from the PS3 issues but these have been my compliants so far after 100hours.

If i move the analog sticks or press a button during any of the loading screens there is a decent chance the system will freeze.

If i'm in a the middle of an action or moving fast and press X to go inside or outside, i have a chance it will freeze or take much longer to load.

Framerate in third person drops by a lot, i would say sub 20fps. When spells are being cast by more then one person the FPS average 15-20. In some of the caves the FPS have dropped down to sub 5 when lots of spider webs around.

I have had two dogs vanish, one is under the companions house happened during a mission when going from outside to inside, i can still hear it around that house and near some of the walls of whiterun. Second dog i got from a mission sort of thing, and he vanished near some Imperial camp. Won't let me buy new dog.

I have stolen items listed in my inventory even though i never stole them. One time none of my furniture loaded in my house and all equipemnt chest were gone along with most walls, worked after a reload.

The audio and visuals are getting more and more out of sync during any combat now or when casting spells. Sounds going off before or after the animations all teh time.

If i turn the camera to fast and it catches any dark spot the screen goes black for 1-4 seconds. When fighting in the area around whiterun if my camera catches the sky, then goes back to the ground the screen is very much a red tint along with the enemies for 3-7 seconds. Looking at dark spot to light spot pretty much wrecks the colours and brightness for 1-3 seconds.

Overall the daytime dark areas are too dark so brightness needs to be adjusted but come night its way to bright. The colour is also vastly different from one location to another, so constant adjustmenst to my TV are needed just to keep the same colours from one location to another.

The audio is very poor aswell and its pretty clear just how low quality it is. The sound in some locations also provides a low sounding spinning noise, sounds like the 360 fan. I'm actually pretty sure its the exact same noise, as taking my headset on/off its impossible to tell a difference.

I guess switching to the 360 won't guarantee much then :/

I've had no problem with 1 and 2 on ps3, I had 2 system locks in 85 hours which happened while walking outside.

3. All the time, fighting a room full of casters is a pain.

4. I don't have a dog but I had a follower fall under the world through a missing section of dungeon, had to reload.

5. Not happened in my house, but on 2 occasions sections of dungeons were missing.

6. Same, especially Draugr death lord/overlord shouts, the sound comes upto 3 seconds too late.

7. HDR lighting works fine on ps3, however even with the patch the lag is still horrible in Whiterun.

8. I don't have that problem, setting your 360 HDMI color reference levels to normal instead of expanded might help.

9. Audio is luckily fine on ps3 and sounds quite wonderful (apart from the late sound effects now and then)

Lag is an ongoing problem though. I still need to reload the game after 1 or 2 hours.

Last night I ran into another quest that was obviously not playtested well. You need a glass claw at some point which gets easily knocked of it's resting place during a fight and blends in with all the other stuff on the ground, resulting in you looking all through the dungeon for it. Then when you finally find it the gate might now be closed with no clue how to open it. (Jump on the pedestal so the game things the claw is back, then off and the gate will re-open)

It definitely seems the world levelling has been tweaked with the patch. Pre patch I got the occasional draugr death lord and mostly the standard and restless ones, now even before I levelled again I got draugr death lords pretty much as standard with the occasional overlord thrown in.

Well, on the other hand, patch 1.2 fixed some minor bugs on the PC. The Dragon glitch were if they are killed too fast won't drop a soul has been corrected, no more V-Sync mouse lag and some other minor issues.

A shame that they still haven't adressed broken quests or conflicting quest lines (Companions side-quest, some Daedric artifact quests being un-able to be completed, etc.)
