Forums - Sales - Black Friday anecdotal evidence thread

I went to an Office Depot, Best Buy, Frys, Costco, and Comp USA looking for computers for my office. Got a few good deals. Tried to pay attention to what was going on in the gaming area. Here in Dallas it seemed all the consoles were moving but all still had q bit of stock. Cheap games were picked over pong before I got there according to the store employees.

Funny story, at both Best Buy and Frys I heard employees trying to explain to parents that they already needed a 360. for Kinect to work. At both stores this conversation seemed to be drawing a small crown of 3-5 couples. It seems there's some confusion there. Hehe. There may be some sad kids come Christmas morning.

So noone has seen any Wii's sold?????

I heard in a different site, the Blue Wii $99 at Walmart did a killing.

They certainly sold out of them. The real question is just 1 deal at 1 store chain do that much damage.  How many did each store have to sell.  I also really think what will be interesting to see is what are the deals that start Sunday for next week. So far all we have is Target selling the 250GB Kinect Bundle for $299.99  and the PS3 Move bundle for $299.99

that one store has ovet 3700 stores in the US. The Wii and Kinect was made for timeslike this, I expect major numbers. We need a black friday prediction thread.

Yes we know that, but if each store had 25 units to sell (Walmart in Little Rock AK where I am visiting had 12 last night when I stopped by) that is still less than 100,000 units sold.

that's still alot

Yes it is, but with PS3 and 360 on sales with real nice deals at nearly every store (including Walmart) I feel Wii will be 3rd this week.

I really have a hard time believing the PS3 outselling the Wii on Black Friday. I see 360 doing crazy, Wii not too far , PS3 Hanging tough.

Hmm last year Wii did 600k, PS3 did 440k in 09 (It did outsell 360 that year, apologies to Themeintial or however you spell your name) so it's defo possible if demand is similar to 09 levels. Wii deals are barren this year except for the walmart $99 Wii deal.

Well anything is possible, I just don't see it. As far as demand, they are probably even at the moment.

I just got back from round 2 of shopping today, and I was only gone for about an hour this time as opposed to nearly 3 hours last night for just a couple of games lol. Walmart and Target were sold out of BF3 last night, but I snagged the limited edition with the Karkland expansion pack at GameStop for $40 (I went there with the intention of picking up Rayman Origins for $40, but felt this was a much better deal.)

I went to Best Buy also, they didn't have much of the games on sale left, but they had plenty of the more expensive console bundles left like the Uncharted 3 320GB bundle, and the limited edition Gears 3 and MW3 360 bundles left, along with tons of standard $149 Wii bundles. Got Boondocks Season 2 for just $12!

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Just got back from BB and had an extremely similar experience to Nightdragon. A large number of MW3, 250GB/Kinect, GOW3, Uncharted 3, and Move bundles, as well as a metric ton of Wii's. Most of them stacked up against the front wall next to the registers. Picked up SSF4 on a whim.

Proudest Platinums:
1. Gran Turismo 5
2. Persona 4 Arena
3. Wipeout HD
4. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
5. Super Street Fighter 4

well user 96warrior (family) went out to get Rage, DukeNukem Forever, and a Xbox 360 and noticed the only thing being bought were PS3's.

It's thismeintiel (which is actually misspelled itself)!  God, get it right!    Anyway, apology accepted.  Personally, I see demand for the PS3 being high, though the 360 will probably come out on top.  However, I don't think there was that much of a crazy demand for the Wii.  Not that it will do horrible numbers, and I could be wrong, but I think the Wii will come last in the home consoles.

This-me-initial, sorry but it's the best I'm gonna be able to remember! In US 360 will floor PS3 for sure, and we always knew (did we?) that Wii and PS3 would be close. I have only see a few people on the net from varied forums say Wii was doing well though, I dunno, maybe it'll surprise us all with that Wal-Mart deal. I think PS3 will be up YoY by a fair bit, so Sony should give some numbers on it (although recently even when they are up YOY they don't dish out numbers) MS will given numbers, and 3DS will do well, so hoping they do a full breakdown as per usual.

Ah, close enough, lol.  And yea, I'm hoping for concrete numbers, as well.  Also, I wouldn't exactly use the word "floor."  Sure, if the 360 sold like 400-500K this week in Americas and the PS3 only sold like 200K, then by all means say the 360 floored the PS3.  Of course, the difference isn't going to be that big.  You're right about the Wii may surprise us, it usually does during the holidays.  But, I'm thinking this year will be weaker for it considering the Wii U has been announced and the flow of great games for it has definitely slowed to a crawl.  We'll just have to wait and see.

I was talking US though, last year it did 600k, and judging by Ben's comments it's clearly been bigger this year, so 700k vs 400k, is a pretty large gap.

Just got back from my local gamestop, picked up my Zelda 3DS but I saw ton of people buying 360s, normal 3DSs [hehe] and PS3s, hardly anyone was buying Wiis or DS/PSP.

My first Ocarina of time play through here I come!

I am confident you'll love it =D
