Forums - Sales Discussion - Sony announce US sales now exceed 3.9m

@DreamsCast:

Nope, these sales are for weeks, that means if 11.25 (11.19-11.25).
BUT, somehow, graphically SIX weeks are EQUAL to vgchartz FIVE weeks numbers - http://vgchartz.com/hwtable.php?cons%5B%5D=PS3&cons%5B%5D=PSP&cons%5B%5D=PS2&reg%5B%5D=America&start=39418&end=39446

Every 5 seconds on earth one child dies from hunger...

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

Sony fanboys are the worst...

You know why we trust that Nintendo's shipped = sold(or is very near)? BECAUSE THEIR SYSTEMS SELL THE SECOND A CUSTOMER SEES THEM!

Got it? It's not hard to figure out. The PS3 doesn't exactly fly off the shelves, the Wii & DS do. Also, I don't see anyone heralding Microsoft's shipped reports as the gospel.

If Sony says that have sold ANYTHING to consumers, they're lying. They only give out shipped numbers, this has been said time, and time, and time, and time, AND TIME, AND TIME, and time, and time, and time, AND TIME again.

No he claims sony has shipped 1.2M+

I claim that is false they have not shipped but SOLD 1.2M+ and ps3 is being undertracked by over 300k.

Ok... here's the deal: The chain of product is: Number of items produced at the factory - number of items shipped/in transit - number of items accounted/stored in own warehouse - number of items sold into distributor's warehouses/shops.

If a company bighead talks about "sell through", it is usually the chain above, so  when the Sony guy said 1.2M  units sell-through, it means that 1.2M units went through the chain and are now at the distributors facilities . How many of those sell-through items were actually sold to the public is the distributor's problem, not Sony's..

Anyone who wants what VGC ACTUALLY has for that period need to use this;

ConsolePS3PSPPS2
America
872,178
1,064,573
1,043,708

except unlike what Crazzy said, you should ADD 4 days, those being 23rd, 24th and 25th of November, as well as the 31st December.

I love it how some fanboys can make a storm in a tea cup. Guys, it's a difference of what? 300k consoles, or something like that? A difference which, being true, would be confirmed by NPD and/or Sony's financial report pretty soon?

Give it a rest, if there's reason for the numbers to be significantly changed (which I doubt), that will happen in a few weeks at most.

Over and out.

@Crazyman and TWrOo

The problem with your figures is that the 5 (not 4) days you miss out include the biggest retail day of the year - black friday which sold the majority of sales that week (probably over 100,000 PS3s sold on that day alone).

Using the 19th Nov - 29th Dec and taking off the 19th, 20th, 21st and 22nd Nov and adding the 30th and 31st Dec makes more sense than doing it the way you are.

At the very least add half of black friday week in (although if you think as many PS3s were sold Sunday - Wed as Thrusday, Black Friday and Saturday then you must be smoking somethin')! Also you need to add the 30th / 31st Dec into it.

But it doesn't matter anyway since Sony are talking about shipped and not sold to customers, despite what they say. My point was that VGC's data isn't that much different anyway.

And remember back to when Sony said they were doing 100,000 PS3s a week in early November or something and VGChartz had 80,000 or whatever then NPD came out and was even lower than vgc. I really would not believe Sony's PR releases they are full of BS imo

they are most likely talking about sold to retailers and not sold to consumers

it makes more sense we are overtracking rather than undertracking
