I always felt PS3 would close the gap and surpass the 360. But at the rate its going... it'll probably takes years.

Pretty neat. Only way it will pass 360 is if consumer flock to it at $199. Otherwsie Americas made it so they will be a statistical tie at the end of it all

Shipments are going to be interesting. If PS3 is up compared to the same quarter last year than the shipment gap will only be about 2 million.

Proudest Platinums:
1. Gran Turismo 5
2. Persona 4 Arena
3. Wipeout HD
4. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
5. Super Street Fighter 4

If shipments figures for PS3 are the same last year (3.2m) then the shipped gap is 2 million... but I expect more this year... so maybe 3.5m putting the shipped gap below 2 million .

I think your getting confused with 2009. 3.2 is what it shipped in Q3 of that year. Last year it shipped 3.5 million in quarter 3.

great math

The most important thing (IMO) is that even tho the gap is decreasing, the 360 is still selling well. I think if you ask sony execs, they would say that they would prefer to be 3rd but have very healthy sales (along with the 360), then they gaining the 2nd spot, with 360 declining quick, because that would mean quicker next gen consoles coming out.

I think sony desperatly wants to extend the life of this gen consoles, and release a well prepared, reliable, reasonable price, big improvment, with great software on release PS4 in 2014.

It will be nothing more than a bragging right when they do pass the 360, both consoles now have large active user-bases. The HD twins have taken all the third party support this generation, and that support is basically split equally among them.
