The Wii U could go the way of the Dreamcast, a good console but no way a commercial success. Nintendo could go the Third-Party developer way but if the case should carry on making many games because they have a good track record.

The day Nintendo steps out of the console race is the day they stop making games all together. That’s what they have said. People need too look at the bigger picture here. Nintendo can have this console fail and still come out with a new one for the 9th gen of console round.

Sega released the dreamcast when they were loosing money even before it came out and Nintendo is in no way even close to were Sega was at that time. They are sitting on a 13billion pail of cash right now. Is that money suddenly gonna disappear and they are going to leave just like that?

That's what he is probably hoping for, because he is one of those unbiased Sony/Nintendo fans who would like nothing more than seeing Nintendo make games for Sony.

Rainbow Yoshi goes well with your first post of this thread.

He hits teenages, he forgot Nintendo ever existed, he pretends Nintendo is all about the casual even if a year ago he debated the opposite, and years later he realizes how silly he was.

As well as Nintendo have done during this generation in terms of sales, it's clear that their strategy isn't one that is going to last forever. Some of the new people that Nintendo has introduced to gaming will move onto tablets and smartphones, whereas others will enjoy gaming so much that they'll want to progress onto more challenging games.

The future success of Nintendo greatly lies in them being able to secure a new fanbase from the younger audience (10-13) in order to secure a purchase from them in the coming generations. Some of the fans that they gained from the NES/SNES era are starting to turn away from Nintendo consoles in favour of the competition (as is expected), but this would normally be countered by the gain of a new fanbase from the younger market.

It's possible that the increased popularity of "hardcore" games such as Call of Duty (partly due to 3rd party propaganda, and from the growth of Youtube channels such as Machinima) have taken this market instead. In the past it was always about Mario or Zelda, but times are changing - there is a strong anti-Nintendo mentality among many younger gamers that there simply wasn't in the past. Are the popular Nintendo franchises finally going to step aside to make room for a new round of mega-franchises?

TL;DR: "Hardcore" 3rd party games are taking the market that Nintendo used to secure in the past. This could have a devastating impact on their hardware sales in the future.

Nintendo has made a lot of money in the DS/Wii-Generation with "casual" gamers. But Nintendo has made a lot of money in the console generations before.

Nintendos only problem with the Wii was the lack of third party support. But it seems with 3DS and Wii U Nintendo give great backup to the third parties and the third parties make their top games for this new nintendo systems.

I think: A console with bombast graphics and all third-party-games and the great nintendo first party titles will be a a great success: And the Wii U seems to be exact this console. It will be the ps2 of the next console generation.
