That can be said of almost every single racer in the industry.

Aside from the tail part. Which means that Mario Kart is actually diversifying even more! :P

Looks awesome.

Well the article shows new characters, aspects of the game such as items and objects to interact with. Gliding and flight has never been done before in a Kart racer and it is really fun, trust me I actually played it. There is more new content in this Mario Kart then any of the past games sure when online first made an appearance in MarioKart it was earth shattering but it didn't change how you play the game.

With MK7 Nintendo has fundamentally changed how you play the game, when you jump off a cliff is it advantageous for you to glide over the competition or drop to the ground and try to gain and edge on land. We don't know if the brick blocks are just for show or if they will be implemented in the game. The toad , is it a balloon, pedestrian or prop it certainly hints at yet another new aspect never before seen in MarioKart.

So with all those new features, characters, weapons, level's , game play features like gliding. What do you expect Nintendo to do differently? Mario Kart is a kart racer, there is only so much you can do with a kart racer. Its like looking at the new Forza and saying its the same damn game except for the new cars. Maybe you would be happy if Nintendo took Mario Kart and turned it into an FPS it could be called Mario Kartridge reloaded, would that be the change you want? How do you suggest Nintendo change and evolve the way we play a kart racer without changing the core aspects of what a racer is?

You do have a solid point and I shouldnt have been so quick to judge from the pics. I just dont see the fun aspect or the significant changes with each sequal to warrant another purchase, as you do but never the less im sure the game will pleas the fans, so thats all that matters anyway.

The justification is that there's only one game per system.

I find it amazing that they manage to hold off releasing multiple games per system - imagine the extra money that they could make if they realeased another Mario Kart Wii? I suppose that it keeps the brand strong for the future though

Nintendo manages to hold off making so many games that this really isn't amazing; and while a non-Mario Kart game (except Super Mario Bros.) wouldn't sell as well as another Mario Kart, it would have more potential to move additional hardware as it could address gaps in the lineup; and more hardware being sold means that more software can be sold. That's how Nintendo has to think, not like a third party publisher.

I know.  A third party would have definitely put out a Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Rol has one hell of a point, but there is also another very strong reason for Nintendo not to release multiple Mario Kart games or in fact games that are direct sequels to titles already available on their consoles. Nintendo's franchises and titles are renowned for their legs the game sells very well the first year, however Nintendo's software sells most often for the remaining life cycle of the console most often.

SmashBros, Mario Kart, NSMB, Mario 3D, Zelda etc...etc.. are well known to continue selling as long as the hardware is available. If Nintendo releases a sequel within the same generation it kills of the sales of the predecessor. In some cases where the predecessor isn't performing as well as expected (Has shorter legs) or the creator of the franchise wants to create a sequel then one is made.

The negatives are many consumers who purchase Nintendo games have enough Nintendo content coming out on a regular basis (Usually) that they won't pick up the same franchise multiple times a generation either. If another Mario Kart Wii launched it would sell well but not as good as the first one, the Mario Kart WiiU would sell but could be effected by the fact consumers just bought the second Wii version.

Fact is Nintendo knows that its titles are a long term investment. Not only do they push hardware in the immediate time of launch but they continue to do decent software numbers long into the generations cycle. Its in Nintendo's best interest to provide users with around one title based on their favorite franchise or spin-off each generation.

As Rol pointed out it also frees Nintendo up to fill in gaps, reach users not yet reached. Instead of making a second Mario Kart Nintendo can invest that money in a StarFox game or Kirby or other new or existing IP. Thus reaching a wider audience pushing more hardware which in turn leads to more software sales.

Yes, that's exactly the point I was making. Nintendo shouldn't have made Super Mario Galaxy 2, but something else instead.

I actually agree with this.  Super Mario Galaxy 2 was a great game, but it would have been much bettter if Nintendo made me wait since they are very similar.

Just like Skyward Sword? Or Uncharted 3? Skyrim? Battlefield 3? MW3? Halo 4?

I'm fairly certain you're interested in at least one of those. The thing with sequels is that they are similar, they just BUILD on it. Note the '7'
