Forums - PC - Ugh. Tried updating nvidia drivers and my screen is now black

No clue whats going on.  I can't tell if its still installing or not, its been about 15 min.  Anyone out there know what I should do?  Manually shut down the computer and turn it on again?

Anyway to go back to the old drivers without being able to...you know...see what I'm doing?

Thanks for any help.

Thanks yeah that ended up fixing it.  I was afraid to shut it down without being able to see if it was still installing.  Crisis averted though.

that happens all the time, you just wait till the screen goes back, then wait a couple of minutes , then manually shut it down, even if you think the installation isn't complete the computer wont shut down until everything is installed.

next time... buy ATI...

Only if he wants to have even MORE driver problems, he should.

Downloading the drivers through Steam is much more stable.

What color was it before it went black?

Downloading drivers from the actual nvidia site even more so. nVidia just has better drivers than ATI and that's that, no way around it.

What would you say someone in this situation should buy?

A second device with an internet connection to properly troubleshoot the problem in case the PC goes to hell for osme reason.
