its about abandoning the PS image to be more like XBOX.

You're missing the point. It's not about abadoning an image but having your Western developers cater to the Western audience. As the industry continues to change and evolve, so do the styles of developers to match the ever changing taste and expectations of the gaming public.

but consumer decide that outlaw, not developers ... and consumers have spoken ... KZ3, LBP, Resistance series, Infamous have ALL failed to meet the success to there predecessors and are in decline. Its also ignorant about western developers catering to a western audience for 2 reasons: as a developer you should be catering to as many ppl as possible regardless of region and then they wonder  why they cant penetrate japan..., and this western audience is not what made playstation.. playstation fans are not a western audience ... thats XBOX AKA point of my thread.

What exactly is LBP, Resistance, and Infamous' predecessors? Infamous did better than any Sly Cooper game (in fact, more than doubled the highest selling Sly), and the second entry will pass up Sly 1 soon to put that completely to rest.

I suppose you're comparing Resistance to Ratchet? Which would be silly considering Ratchet games were still made this generation and outdone by the Resistance series (despite the second game being a giant turd).

Killzone is an absolutely awful example. KZ2 did nearly 4 times more than KZ, and while KZ3 didn't do as much as KZ2, that has to do with diminshing returns of sequels on the same console. (despite that, it still did nearly 3 times more than the original on PS2)

Quiet - I am actually a huge fan of Crash, Spyro and Jak and would be all over games in similar style to them.

What about Ratchet? They're still the same as they were on the PS2; they didn't change into something realistic.

Well, I certainly don't mind this. Uncharted came out to be a beast and I'm not sure if a fantasy type of uncharted would have been good, as talented as ND is. Of course, if they came out with a darker version of jak this gen, that would be pretty kick ass, a mix of gritty 3rd person shooter/adventure with a bit of that fantasy world from jak we know and love.

Finally, an intelligent life form. After going through 11 pages of this thread, I couldn't ascertain if the OP's statement was deemed complimentary or derogatory. Also, I thought Jimmy Hoffa would turn up before I saw PS3 fans being critical of Uncharted. Oh, how fun!

i know but i was just curious tho lol bc i have both systems and dont see anything like infamous and you cant say prototype bc thats both consoles...

Crackdown? Lots of people were comparing them back then.

@Xxain, this is silly. You were never going to buy those games, regardless if they were fantasy or not. If it isn't Japanese, it isn't worth buying. It's sad you think this way because western games have been arguably better this gen.

Mirsonis right thia debateis stupied, it seems this how thread is not about the games being made by Sony First arty US Studios. but you no being able to play Jak 4 a game seiresthat hasbeen a GTA ripoff since JackII acourding to mainy. grow up your acting like a spoied 5 year old.

If Sony feels the need to cater there western games more to the Western Market to sell them better in the west then so be it. mainy wesern gamers moved to XBOX 360 and feel in love wih some of the exclusives that MS offers. Sony feels the needs to win that audance back so they need to make games to do that.

I peronally prefer Japanese Games o western Games because of the art and design and he fact I am a Jaanese Pop Culture Otaku(this is a dabate that can wai for another thread though). but I am not blind I can see that shooters were becoming more popular in the west. Developers need to adapted to servive othersise they go the way of the dodo.

Am I the only one who really wants to see how Uncharted with a fantasy setting would look like?

I'd love to as well.  Apparently their original designs involved dragons.  Anything involving dragons is awesome.

I really would love to see them take a crack at a Tolkien-esque artstyle.  Though I fear they'd make it look somewhat like Jak, which would be similar to Warcraft.  I'd prefer either something more realistic like Dark Souls, or something totally off the wall like Borderlands.

May I interest you two in these?

I find it odd that Xxain claims ND/SP/Insomniac should have kept making their Jak/Sly/Ratchet games. For one, Insomniac still makes Ratchet games, which are darn good, so I don't know why you mentioned them. And secondly, ND/SP have seen FAR more success with Uncharted/Infamous then they ever did with Jak/Sly. It's obvious that the general public, which they are trying to appeal to, prefers their approach this gen. It's just that YOU want those old-style games.

Well I'm glad God of War didn't morph into a gritty realistic shooter, or Gran Turismo.

Still waiting for Jak 4 though.

Really glad Insomniac stuck with the R&C franchise and didn't gritty realisticise that. Guerilla's Killzone was already what is was from PS2 original game so they didn't need to be pushed.

I guess Flower was a gritty FPS but with petals, and no shooting, so not really a gritty shooter at all. Though Flow is pretty brutal with all the eating and cannibalising that goes on there.

xbox games are way better then everything Sony has of course they tried to copy them (and failed)

*coverarts*

Already have the Witcher 2, and Elder Scrolls games are generally too bloated and boring for my tastes (I much prefer a few intricately designed dungeons like in Zelda or Demon's Souls over the giant, sprawling, repetitive dungeon designs found in games like the Elder Scrolls and Dragon Quest).

I don't know much about the Reckoning and the jury's still out on Dragon's Dogma.  It's a Capcom game, afterall.
