Forums - Gaming Discussion - Rate this Gen's Market Leader: Wii

4/10

-Does not make many games I like. Gamers deserved a console with better graphics. It took 6 years or more to make a new Zelda. I really do not like the Miis.

+ Wii sports is a good party game. Mario Kart always kicks ass. Is easy for young children to play and encourges them to take gaming up as a hobby.

Negatives
- 480p
- Graphically weak
- An abomination of an online service
- Horrible controller, it actually ruined one of their first party games (Brawl)
- Weak third party line-up
- No media capabilities
- Lack of great new first party IPs and even when a good game is developed it so badly distributed that it's nearly impossible to find.
- Large gaps between any good releases
- Needs a much larger hard drive
- Re-iterating on old IPs without introducing new ones
- Massive focus on one type of market for the majority of it's life-cycle
- Motion controls are implemented into nearly every game for no reason and it's never superior to an actual controller.

Positives
- Fully backwards compatible with Gamecube games.
- Home to some interesting niche games (most of them are pretty bad, but their uniqueness makes them interesting).
- It's sturdy.

This!

Perfect answer. I agree.

Pros:

+ Backwards compatibility with the Gamecube
+ Well built with a low failure rate
+ Innovative controller that works well with some games
+ Has some great and unique exclusives
+ It's probably the only console that you could convince your family or girlfriend to play

Cons:

- Lack of 3rd party support
- Recycled IP's
- Missing all of the great multiplatform games on the PS3 / Xbox 360
- Lack of epic titles and hardcore titles
- Controller is hard to use with some games
- Poor online
- Outdated hardware
- Huge lack of software features and multimedia capabilities
- You don't get what you pay for
- The console has a poor reputation amongst hardcore gamers

9.5 out 10

The best console made since the NES.

+ Balanced game library (games for everyone)
+ Focus on local multiplayer
+ A lot of simple and fun games like the NES
+ Unique experiences that the library Move and Kinect combined can't beat so far
+ Hardcore gamers treated as a small (and almost irrelevant) niche of the market

- Lack of Nintendo first party games this year

    • WiiSpeak underutalized and long forgotten
    • Size Limit on WiiWare games
  • Weaker than the other consoles
  • Missed out on a lot of major third party titles
    • And many major franchises that did appear only appeared as a spin-off of the actual franchise

Smeags' Score: 9/10

Even without Virtual Console/WiiWare games, I have more games for this console than I do for anything other console ever. That says a lot. The resurgance of the platformer was a huuuge plus for me this generation, and the focus on fun for everyone led to many fond memories with both family and friends. The Wii is my favorite console of all time now... and I really can't wait for Skyward Sword. ^_^

Here's the way I look it, a truly great library is well rounded. The Wii does not have a well rounded library.

Just dont enjoy Nintendo first party like I used to.
N64 was Nintendos pinnacle for me. And the old Rare was what I loved most about Nitendo.

Never liked the wii mote and hated the visuals.

I prefer a mix of family games and top tier blockbusters. Of which the Wii imo lacks hugely.

I used to be a Ninty fanboy. But Ninty's decision from GC onwards lead me to foray into PS and Xbox. Which is when I fell in love with the Halos and Forzas of this world.
