It's not a question of if--it's when?
it will for one big reason: it has much more Japanese support. No Japanese gives a f#%^ about Halo! While everyone loves Mario, from America to Japan. Halo 3 will probly sale more in America but everywhere else, Mario Galaxy will dominate.

If you took Japan out of the equation you would probably not bring the two games 1 million closer together. SMG in Japan will pass 1 million... possibly getting 1.5 million, but I would bet that without Japan SMG will still sell more.
Halo 3 is sittin on 6.43 million whilst Marion Galaxy is at 4.3 million.
Halo 3 has a 2.13 million lead. MG sold over 4x as many as Halo 3 last week....
hmm... tough call but I think MG sells more. I think Halo 3 stops at about 7-7.5 million and MG is totally unpredictable. For all I know it keeps selling 400k per week until it has a 100% attach rate, or it could run out of steam. Who knows?
It's no contest. Super Mario Galaxy will easily be able to pass Halo 3, the question is when. The only region where Super Mario Galaxy might have trouble passing Halo 3 is in America, and I believe it will eventually overtake it there, too.

Halo 3 had a 3 million unit lead less than one month ago. The lead will be cut down to less than 2 million by the time next week's results are posted.

I think Halo will sell 1.5-2 M this year
and it will come as holiday bundle this year of the year after
so halo will sell more than 5 M in these 2 years
and I don't see SMG reach 11 M
most probably yes, since wii sales are increasing too fast and super mario galaxy has been selling on the top 5 for a month or more....
Almost everybody says it will, I however, am a little uncertain.
Smg is 2M behind and the sales will probably drop after christmas. If it shall beat it, it will have to hold its 300k + sales (it has sold 380k + during all seven weeks after US release) through whole January. Then it will end up 750k-1 million behind, which it should be able to take after max 3-4 months.
