Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft Needs To Announce The Next Xbox Now

I don't see a reason. XBox hasn't even got to the $150 or $99 price point yet.

They haven't done a price cut in two years now and they are still selling strong in NA and Europe. In fact with Kinect you could argue that MS actually raised their average selling price last year for their bundles. And with Gears 3, Forza 4, Halo Anniversary, Gunstringer, and Rise of Nightmares (its fun even though it rated badly) they got a pretty solid lineup for the core crowd at Xmas. They also have the casuals covered with Dance Central 2 and Kinect Sports Season 2. And they even have a target for the young family crowd with Sesasme Once Upon a Monster, Kinectimals with Bears, and Kinect Disneyland.

I don't see the problem with the console. Third parties are still supporting the console fully so why would they be looking to a new generation right now? Sony has only started to outsell 360 because of the price drop. Once 360 drops its price it will be even or ahead of PS3. They just don't see the reason to pull the trigger yet. Especially since XBox is still #1 for home consoles in North America.

We'll probably hear some rumblings about the "Next-Box" sometime next year as the Wii U gets closer to launch, but I don't expect to see any concrete info on it (i.e. the hardware reveal itself or actual games) until early '13, or right around E3 2013.

It all depends on the Wii U and how it performs when its released, and if it can deliver a true next-gen experience or of it's really just Nintendo playing catch up in the hardware department with a new controller gimmick thrown in to entice the casuals to upgrade.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Seriously no they don't!

I agree with You_john (is that unique?) they are doing good right now, and they have been saying these are gonna be long life cycles for a long time. If anything though they will wait to see what the Wii U does.

It's because we are very agreeable people ^_^

Wouldn't that technically be the 360's 6th year? I know 7th holiday, but it hasn't been on the market 6 years yet.

Besides, what's with this sudden rush to announce a new system? Let's at least get to 2012 first!

No he was right. How he worded it, the Xbox 360 would be heading into it's 7th year! The 6th year ends on the date he mentioned in the thread.

Please update the OP again :)

When the clock strikes midnight on the 16 of November this year the 360 will head into its sixth year, with dozens of games still to come. This isn't the usual console life-cycle; by now the big games should have dried up, with only one or two first-party essentials tiding players over until Microsoft release their next console, which would typically be revealed in the middle of the predecessor's fifth year.

As many of you may already know. Microsoft has never really had a strong first party studio developers. That said the Xbox 360 has also had many technology problems going on with it this gen. With the infamous RROD, to the limited disc space forcing many developers to split games into multi disc form.

I think these signs (and many others) should let Microsoft know that the 360 is right at its limit's and they should really start considering bringing on the next gen Xbox.

After all the Xbox 360 is a 2005-spec PC in a slimline box at a consumer friendly price, and the next Xbox will likely follow the same model when it arrives in late 2013 (or later) but building the next generation will be a challenge for everyone.

For Microsoft, The challenge is selling such a monster machine at the right price; for developers, it's creating so many HD assets in such a volume, on time and on budget; for the tech experts, it's everything from finding the right storage media to worrying about whether broadband data caps will kill the dream of a fullydownloadable future.

Whatever Microsoft does in the next year or two will more than likely decide rather or not the next xbox will be a bigger success than the current xbox 360.

We do need new consoles. In 2012 console sales will be HORRIBLE. I expect Microsoft to announce a new Xbox in E3 2012 with a release in early 2013. Holiday 2012 is we're lucky.

Sure next-gen games would cost a lot more to make but shouldn't have companies been preparing for this? I know Square Enix is prepping for this. So is Activision with its multiple studios working on COD yearly releases. I expect Infinity Ward and Treyarch to work together for the first next-gen COD.

that would be a commercial suicide , years don't measure a system's life, Demand does.

Its hard developing creative games on old hardware. Just look at each COD game released. Although each one adds new features and stuff, it shows that current consoles aren't capable of producing a 1080p, 60FPS Call of Duty with beautiful graphics.

Activison is milking this generation like a cow. Yearly releases are taking baby steps right now. We need huge leaps.

i hope they dont, bc that will make sony do the same which the ps3 still has life left with ALOT of games coming this year and next year.. run these consoles into the dirt then release the new ones!

Nope . its actually EASIER to develop creative games on old hardware. look at El Sheddai for example, and all the GREAT games that are released this year, and are going to release next year, all are great games, compared to launch titles which were like baby steps to the developers, developers don't need to take another huge leap of faith , and besides they're fine experimenting with PC game , utiliziing it if they want to, i say gaming is booming and its still growing up this gen, so they shouldn't cut it's limbs, besides WiiU coming out means more japanese developers will be making HD games.

The Wii U will start the next console generation in late 2012. In 2012 : XBox 360 will be in its 7th year and the PS3 will be in its 6th year. Expect an announcement of the new XBox and the PS4 at E3 2012. Sony's and Microsoft's  next system will arrive in 2013. Giving the Wii U a one year head start, giving Nintendo the next console generation but allowing more time for the latest technology to be implemented in the next console system.

Touch screen controller imitating the popularity and success of Apple. Improved online/App stores for the next console. Kinect as other controller. Blu-Ray as the drive for the new XBox. HDD of 250GB or 500GB+.
