Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft Needs To Announce The Next Xbox Now

ThePS3News said:

When the clock strikes midnight on the 16 of November this year the 360 will head into its sixth year, with dozens of games still to come. This isn't the usual console life-cycle; by now the big games should have dried up, with only one or two first-party essentials tiding players over until Microsoft release their next console, which would typically be revealed in the middle of the predecessor's fifth year.

As many of you may already know. Microsoft has never really had a strong first party studio developers. That said the Xbox 360 has also had many technology problems going on with it this gen. With the infamous RROD, to the limited disc space forcing many developers to split games into multi disc form.

I think these signs (and many others) should let Microsoft know that the 360 is right at its limit's and they should really start considering bringing on the next gen Xbox.

After all the Xbox 360 is a 2005-spec PC in a slimline box at a consumer friendly price, and the next Xbox will likely follow the same model when it arrives in late 2013 (or later) but building the next generation will be a challenge for everyone.

For Microsoft, The challenge is selling such a monster machine at the right price; for developers, it's creating so many HD assets in such a volume, on time and on budget; for the tech experts, it's everything from finding the right storage media to worrying about whether broadband data caps will kill the dream of a fullydownloadable future.

Whatever Microsoft does in the next year or two will more than likely decide rather or not the next xbox will be a bigger success than the current xbox 360.

Lets get real, the console is still selling well enough to go another year or two.. Plus, with a Xbox 360 Price Drop - which is inevitable sometime - the console will get a rush of buyers ..  Sony is trying to coincide there PS4 release closer with MS's console this time..  You could say Sony tried last time, but this time i'm sure they will be closer..

Id like to see next gen get started sooner, but console makers dont care about anything but milking every last cent they can .. this includes all console makers..

why would microsoft announce a new console when the 360 is the highest selling home console currently in NA?

actualy the PS3 is the highest selling home console since its price cut.

Worldwide the 360 has a small lead over the PS3. If Microsoft is smart they'll launch the Xbox 720 8-12 months before the PS4 and get that head-start again.

that would be a commercial suicide , years don't measure a system's life, Demand does.

Its hard developing creative games on old hardware. Just look at each COD game released. Although each one adds new features and stuff, it shows that current consoles aren't capable of producing a 1080p, 60FPS Call of Duty with beautiful graphics.

Activison is milking this generation like a cow. Yearly releases are taking baby steps right now. We need huge leaps.

Nope . its actually EASIER to develop creative games on old hardware. look at El Sheddai for example, and all the GREAT games that are released this year, and are going to release next year, all are great games, compared to launch titles which were like baby steps to the developers, developers don't need to take another huge leap of faith , and besides they're fine experimenting with PC game , utiliziing it if they want to, i say gaming is booming and its still growing up this gen, so they shouldn't cut it's limbs, besides WiiU coming out means more japanese developers will be making HD games.

What I meant to say is that its hard to create something "new" for a game like Call of Duty or Battlefield without lots of compromises.

Like it said in the article, AI needs to improve.

No need this time...xbox brand is well established now especially in America, the most important market in the world. They also made grounds in Europe and to some extend Japan.

He said 360 is still outselling PS3 NA ( North America )... which it is.. but worldwide PS3 is selling better since the price cut.. I think MS will do a price cut soon, maybe not as soon as we like..
