Can Disney beat Universal's record 2015 domestic gross - $2.445 billion?

It will fall short of tha... 4 13.33%

Finding Dory, Doctor Stra... 20 66.67%

It's going to be very cl... 6 20.00%

Total:30

Music Industry: # of albums sold
Gaming Industry: # of consoles/games sold
Movie Industry: $ made

Interesting difference, it's almost as if the studios don't want us to know that less and less people go to the theater. So they make it seem like the industry is growing by raising ticket prices and adding premiums for 3D, DBOX, etc.

My point is that whatever number gets thrown out for the box office, it's meaningless. It's pretty silly to think that if half of the movie-going audience continued on to theaters at double what people are paying now, the studios (along with threads like this) would be raving about how successful things are. It's beyond silly, actually.

Acutally domestic ticket prices are pretty much stable for the last three years according to box office mojo so is the amount of tickets sold.  So far this year ticket sales are actually ahead of last year.  Also the overseas market becomes biger and bigger over time as far as costs go a movie ticket is still a lot more affordable on a world wide basis compared to a music CD or a game.

Music Industry production cost of a album mystery for the most part.  Gaming Industry same deal.  Movie Industry almost all production budget are easily available the only mystery is how much they spend on promotion and advertising but even that is disclosed more often then numbers in the music and gaming industry.  Also its widely know that the studios get about 60% of the total box office gross its a mystery how much off a cut the music and video game industry gets from total sales.

^^Totally agree this is definitely on of the best threads ever on this site.

I know that no one lse cares about Battleship. But I saw it twice. I know that it is not close to making its money back, but fir some reason I would feel better if it could push out 309 million WW. Still has not come to either China or Japan right? Maybe its China.

It was released on April 13th in Japan and their are no more upcoming release dates so it world wide box office of a little bit over $300 million is pretty much it.  Universal is still in good shape Ted will make a lot of money.  Also next year you have Despicable Me 2 which will make tons of money.  The near future for Paramount doesn't look so good both World War Z and G.I. Joe: Retaliation have been delayed and are over budget on top of that they no longer make any more Mavel Studios movies since Disney will take over all the franchises started by them.

You do not think battleship will hit china? They loved transformers!

Paramount barely broke even with the first Joe, surprised they went for another one.

At least battleship was not as bad box office wise as John Carter.

Above I meant Moonrise Kingdom, not magic kingdom. It doing well.

I have no idea if it will hit China.  Its still kinda though to find out what foreign movies will play in China each year.  I agree that Moorise Kingdom is doing well its a film with a pretty small budget its in limited release and its barely advertised.  Will probably be a sleeper hit also once it hits Blu-Ray/DVD and on demand.  Should be able to surpass $20 million both domestically and overseas at the box office.  Overall box office total world wide should be between $40 and $50 million dollars.

What happened to 'Seeking a Friend'? It has completely disappeared of the chartz.... Last weekend it made over 3 million and this weekend it has apparently made less than 50k. Something is wrong there...

The amazing spiderman is going to be bigger than anyone has anticipated. Huge opening!

Let´s hope so, it would be well deserved. It is an amazing Movie, best Spider-Man so far.

Spidey will need at least 500 million world wide just to potentially make a profit. I would say less, but marketing has been in your face everywhere! 220 million for the budget alone! Almost on par with the rediculous budget for MIB3, except spidey has a better chance than Will Smiths latest big budget movie to make a big profit.

Still, a lot of people are still sour over the last movie. So we shall see. I am going to see it because I mildly enjoyed spidery 3.

MIB 3 has already made a good profit. What I not understand is why has Spider-Man not started in the US yet?
