Hoping that Mad Max overperforms so my grief regarding the Avengers situation can be sweetened.

What "Avengers situation"?  IT's still gonna end up around 500 million domestically with another billion or more in international grosses.  Trust me, there's no Avengers situation.

As an avid box-office tracker I am saddened by the fact that a movie like F7 is making roughly as much as Age of Ultron. It's more of a personal matter. Nonetheless you need to understand that its Monday drop is very big and doesn't spell good news for the movie.

Why? Both are popcorn movies which appeal mainly to teenagers and young adults. You think the Marvel movie deserves more because...

Because they have created quite the unique Marvel universe with their movies. If you fail to see the achievement in that I recommend you re-watch the marvel movies. I wouldn't really call it popcorn material. Point is that they deserve support... the FF franchise doesn't.

While I do agree that FF7 is getting a LOT more money than it deserves, that doesn't change the fact that, when it's all said and done, Avengers will be in slots 3 and 5 on the all time charts.  It's not doing poorly by any means, it's just not doing AS good as the first one.

And really...the first one was a cultural phenomenon, full of iconic shots, tonnes of hype, and was the first of its kind.  It hit 1.5 billion dollars in a time before china could give a movie more of its gross than its US take.  This one is still gonna get 1.6-1.7 billion, and there's no way you can spin that as bad.

I urge you not to treat this as "IT's not enough that I succeed, but others must fail", in regards to cheerleading Avengers.  I love it too, and I think the avengers represents a certain shift in modern cinema towards precisely what I want, but that just further shows the juggernaut that is FF7.

Assuming Fast 7 doesn't pass the original Avengers, which it might do.

oh I'm sure it will.  I was assuming it would be:

1 - Avatar
2 - Titanic
3 - Avengers: Age of Ultron
4 - Fast and Furious 7
5 - The Avengers.

Shared universes have been done for ages though. Not to mention the characters and most of the plot situations existed previously on the comics. It's an achievement only in the sense they managed to do a lot of money with a lot of movies. But it's not as far as characters, storyline and cinematic techniques are concerned... except perhaps for the first Iron Man, which is still the best movie from Marvel.

And what deserves and what does not deserve support is fairly relative. I don't think either the Marvel shared universe or the Fast and Furious franchise deserve one billion and a half from the box office... though yeah, if I were to choose only between those two, Marvel obviously deserves it more.

Age of Ultron will finish below FF7.

Probably at the rate its going it might not make as much as the first Avengers movie.

The second Avengers didn't take enough risks. It's basically just a retread of the first movie with a different villain. They should have just gone to the Infinity War, they're just trying to squeeze money.
