While he's correct in principal and Microsoft really seems to be taking this too far, most of his comments make him sound like he's complaining that Sony can't buy exclusive content for multiplat games, which is equally stupid.

From what I get, hes talking about the space on blu ray that would allow developers to add other things. Maybe they would pay, but not necessarily.

Anything in the likes of extra material is usually reserved for limited editions anyway, so I don't see what else it would be.

My thoughts too in fairness, he's made himself look a bit of a berk with this statement and it's hardly going to change Microsoft's policy or developers minds.  Any developer that goes to Microsoft first always seem to gush about the support they receive so it seems being in bed with Microsoft first isn't some mythical barrier and encourages smaller developers to speak to them earlier.  I think he's more upset about games Sony missed out on because of these policies.

not for me :)

especially when sony usually get's the "inferior" version when it come's to multiplat game's

1) The PS3 getting inferior versions of multiplats is Sony's own fault. They wanted to use a hardware architechture that is harder to develop for than a PC or 360, and this is the price they pay.

2) Sony is complaining that Microsoft are stopping them from buying exclusive content, but Microsoft does this so their own customers won't be cheated. It's just a tug of war and Sony's complaining that Microsoft is trying to pull against them.

Are Microsoft going about this the wrong way? I believe so. But complaints like "I think what Chris and the other representatives at Microsoft are doing is protecting an inferior technology." are completely unnecessary, because it's completely besides the point.

He does have valid points though, but most of all it just comes off as mudslinging.

I agree that the protecting an inferior technology comment is completely unnecessary. Its about Microsoft trying to protect its business, which is comprehensive. But I dont think purchasing exclusive rights is what Sony want, thats not how they usually do business with devs. If we stick to the article, he is talking of including extras with the available blu ray space without being boycott by microsoft. Maybe not even extras, but things that are going to get remove for the game to fit on say 1,2 or 3 dvd disc. Or thing like cross-platform, where Sony didnt pay since the devs wanted to have that, but Microsoft will not want to publish if the feature is there. Thats what I get from the statement.

I'm not sure how this whole pubs and companies are suppose to work but it sounds like Microsoft is being way too picky in this situation. It's like they want to have every single exclusive or something but like others have said, Live members do have to pay so MS wants to get those exclusives and those limited timed exclusives. Then again, it's not like you get the game for free, you're paying for Live and for the game at full price, not even discounted (as far as I'm concerned). The inferior technology comment was unnecessary, even if it is painfully true. I don't know, it all seems complicated

Its not really extras in the proper sense of the word, its things that devs would also put on the other version if it would be possible. I agree that it does not exclude the possiblity.

Could be, but Portal 2 came out fine in april and EA are releasing SSX with exclusive DLC in january. Even if Microsoft is doing exactly what we're hearing here, it doesn't seem to be changing much. It just seems odd that Sony would complain about developers not getting enough freedom from Microsoft, to include what they like on the disc, when all it means is that it will be DLC instead.

I agree, its odd to come with such a bold statement without much examples. Maybe its just 2-3 issues getting blown out of proportion. I guess we will know later on lol.

I guess we will. And don't get me wrong, some of this does seem like silly demands from Microsoft, but it's just a response to all the content Sony seemed to be getting from third parties. EA gave them a bunch (and still do) and they had some in Batman: Arkham Asylum as well.

PS2? remember that Sony?

I think they want to dumb it down and keep it as pedestrian as possible so that if you want to do anything for Blu-ray or you have extra content above 9 gigs or you want to do anything of that nature, you’d better sure as heck remember that Microsoft can't handle

You can't argue that this is true. There's a ton of multiplatform games that could benefit from Blu-Ray technology. One that comes to mind is GTA4. The Xbox 360 is really holding back the PS3 and limiting that 3rd party games that come to it.
