Forums - Sony - Sony: 'Publishers Are Getting the Living Crap Kicked Out of Them by Microsoft'

Its understandable. We are talking about a company that doesn't allow free content for their silver members, remember? BBC iplayer doesn't exist on 360 because MS doesn't want their own members to get that privilege. They would allow it if it was available only for the gold members.

Basically they are trying to get everyone to purchase a gold subscription. Their mentality revolves around reducing the content on other platforms instead of increasing their own and this has been evident ever since they have been getting timed exclusive dlcs and games.

I find it amazing that there are people who would defend cr*p policies like this.

Sony commenting on this is just rivalry.

And people talking about blu-ray being unnecessary.....are completely missing the point.

Also if you notice the extra content PS3 gets, all of them are DLC content, ever wondered why that case is? Why do you think the AC brotherhood exclusive content is DLC even though it was available on release date? Its because of this policy. The policy refers to only the full game release parity. DLC isn't included in the full game. You have to download it separately.

Someone didn't eat their cereals in the morning....

i don't get this hole M$ hate, i remember when the ps2 had early games like grand theft auto but now if M$ does it there evil? Do you guys remember that the xbox original was the superior tech in the consoles, it had a ton of features like a ps3 and better hardware. Sony used what M$ is using right now, but M$ is the evil devil now? i blame Sony why don't they use the psn plus money to buy some exclusive content.Funny if sony did what M$ is doing they will consider them as saints.

I find this entire argument vexing.

I am correct in assuming that publishing =/= allowing the game on the service at all, right?

you are wrong, thats what publishing is.

Actually YOU are wrong this time.  There are many XBLA games that are not published by Microsoft Game Studios.  In fact, the only difference between XBLA and XBLIG titles is that XBLA games require a publisher.

And being published is just about being given a leg up, so my assumption is the studios complaining about Microsoft are complaining that they're not giving them a leg up by publishing for them?

If that is the case, how bad has the entitlement attitude gotten among digital games developers?

Without specific examples of how this has hurt the consumer, this just sounds like corporate whining that panders to fanboy wars more than the truth.

In others words, Mission Accomplished.

Hasn't there been a barrage of stories over the last few months of indies complaining about MS's practices and on top of Gabe's comments to validate the "problem moving up to B and A tier" devs comment, there's at least some people who would agree.

Well of course there will ALWAYS be someone unhappy with any and every situation.  And they are usually very opinionated and vocal.  But there are obviously many that have benefited from the way that MS has handled XBL and XBLA games.  If not, it's doubtful they would have as much content and be as successful.  But you can't win them all (and you know with Gabe he has Valve's best interest in mind with all of his talk, as he should since it's his company; discussion for another thread ...).

PS2? remember that Sony?

Sony had very few rules when it came to creating games on PS2... but game devs HAD to host their own servers.

Sony only denied a handfull of games (40ish) and most because they were terrible quality or innapropiate (rape cave II anyone?)

Currently playing: MAG, Heavy Rain, Infamous

Getting Plat trophies for: Heavy Rain, Infamous, RE5,  Burnout and GOW collection once I get it.
