Actually, the PS3 sold better than the Xbox 360 worldwide during the 2009 holiday season.  And IIRC it also outsold the Xbox 360 last holiday season but just barely after adjustments on this site regardless of the Xbox 360's strong US demograph.

What does IIRC mean?

No the PS3 did not outsell the 360 last holiday season, check again. 360 was adjusted down, but it still sold something like 30% better.

2009 was the one exception. PS3 had an incredibly strong fall due to the Slim PS3 and price cut. Sony brought down the 360/PS3 gap from 8.1 to 4 million with this move. Very smart buisness strategy, and because of this I have to say 360 typically outsells PS3 during the holidays, instead of always.

PS3 outsold 360 during holiday 2007 as well. And 360 had gotten a price cut that year. IIRC means 'If I recall correctly'.

Proudest Platinums:
1. Gran Turismo 5
2. Persona 4 Arena
3. Wipeout HD
4. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
5. Super Street Fighter 4

So we're pretty sure that the PS3 outsold the Xbox 360 for two Holiday seasons, 2007 and 2009.  Hmmm... Sort of blows Mike-5's assessement out of the water.  We'll see for 2011.

2007 - PS3 outsold the 360 during the holidays (after both had price cuts)
2008 - Xbox 360 outsold PS3 by a comfortable amount after another price cut
2009 - PS3 outsold the 360 by a comfortable margin after a price cut and redesign
2010 - Xbox 360 outsold PS3 but not my as much as 2008 and PS3 still sold the most for the year

With 2011 already in PS3's favor, by a comfortable amount, the only way Microsoft could hope to outsell the PS3 during the holidays (isn't happening for the year, regardless) is by a price slash of some sort. A universal, main cut is unlikely before Nov 2011, so maybe a $50 price slash on Kinect products, which I'm pretty confident wouldn't be enough to top PS3 this holiday.

Has MS ever been wrong about their target though? They still seem to think that they will reach the top spot this year itself.

I guess that's by NPD... US only.

Great week for PS3 in EMEAA!

It is clearly apparent now that 3DS was being held back quite a bit by price. Its still selling pretty fantastic even weeks after the price drop. With a bunch of new software on the way it looks like Nintendo really might have turned the sinking ship around. Good for them, makes you wonder though what this means for Vita. It appears pretty clear the market isn't in any rush to support $250 portables.....

Strong debut for Deus Ex, should sell over a million on the 360 and hopefully on the PS3 as well. Really hope they make a direct sequel to it cause the game is fantstic.

Nice seeing Uncharted 2 get a boost and Infamous 2's boost is due to the PS3 bundle.

Thanks for that.

I guess either Vgchartz is wrong or MS is going to be reducing the price by quite a bit. Or they are going to fail their target.

I expect the PS3 to be above 200k in next weeks numbers.

so what do you get in the MW3 $400 360 bundle isn't that expensive now
