Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft Might “Not Have A Choice” But to Remake Halo 2 in HD

Stop. Just stop.

ODST was always planned as DLC. Bungie actually realised they had way to much content for a DLC release so decided on a Half Life expansion style game.

Just because 1 yes 1 Expansion of Halo has been made, you presume there will be expansions for Halo from here on in. You have no basis to believe this and are pure mud slinging.

Halo is the only franchise that sells the amount it does and does not have a regular release time so close.

ODST is to Halo 3 what Blue Shift or Episodes 1 -3 was to Half Life. It lent a perspective of story on a game which 10's of millions love.

People want it and buy it.

As a Halo fan I'd rather play Anniversary than any other brand new iP out this year. So if the demand is there and I and many others WANT this game, why should anyone be upset that we exist. M$ are a company that dont release their main titles all of the time.

I wasn't talking about the expansions.

But I can now see why the MS doesn't care about new IPs that much. Most people in this thread pretty much confirm that they would rather play halo every year than play something else.

Your assuming again that this website or the 360 fanbase doesnt enjoy other franchises.

Personally for example I love all genres. I am really looking forward  to Skyrim, Forza 4 and also Gears 3. But Halo has been the most perfectly crafted game to me for the last 10 years consistantly as a series.

Regarding your every year comment. No M$ doesnt need to release Halo every year, because there is so much content and replayability in Halo games that I dont stop playing them.  I still play Reach and Halo 3 online regularly. If Anniversary wasnt coming this year I wouldnt be that disappointed. The fact it is coming is a HUGE bonus and  most likely my most played game when it lands.

Why you and others feel the need to justify to yourselves why people like buying series games is beyond me. I agree if quality is hampered I'd rather wait. But quality has bever been an issue with Halo. And the 4 main games have all had 3 years between them. Halo Wars was for a different set of fans in a different genre. Leaving only ODST Expansion as an odd one out Halo release. Thats hardly M$ throwing Halo at me. If anything 3 years was painful to wait for between launches. Halo 4 is the first main Halo to be 2 years from the previous due to 343 taking over and having started it before Reach was finished. Halo 5 wont be here till 2015 according to 343's 10 year plan.

So effectively 2 Halo trilogies will have taken 20 years to arrive. With so far 1 expansion, a well recieved Strategy game and by then probably 2 Remakes in Hd.

That imo is brilliant labour of love for the fans considering the the millions that buy it.

Call it milking or whatever you want.

I am very happy with how Halo has been handled. Especially compared to some series and the variation in game quality.

A couple of points I must address.

--If you watch everything including the stuff at the end of Halo 3 you will realize that the Story is in fact not wrapped up nicely.

--The vast majority of Halo fans are in their teens. 14-22 is probably Halo's biggest fanbase.

--Milking is irrelevent unless the quality gets horrible or they release 2-3 games every single year.

As long as Halo's quality stays high then I say bring on the yearly releases!

I haven't actually played Halo 3 yet, I didn't have an XBOX when it released and I haven't had chance to come back to it yet, I will in the coming months though. I was just going on what other people and my friends have said about the game and I played some of the final missions round a friends house.

That sounds like the right demographic. I wasn't using age as a way to insult the game, I was just pointing out that the game had a huge following amongst younger people, younger people are far more likely to be loyal to the franchise.

And for the last part, I don't agree with that, they need to release games in moderation. Annual releases will guaruntee that the game would be a lower quality than if they spent 2 years or so on development of the game. When Microsoft announced 4 games in one conference, it really did make it look as if they were only in it for the money. There are just far too many Halo games.

Anyway, I hope for the sake of the fans that the quality of the franchise remains high, but I wouldn't expect too much.

It seems Halo fans are taking this "milking" discussion as a direct dig at the franchise and they are starting to act very unreasonable and over-defensive. I would also like to point out that budget ports or handheld games are not retail releases, if you are going to argue, at least do it right.

@ Bolded: Unless its called Duke Nukem Forever. ROFL.

Just so everyone knows. Halo 4 - 6 is taking 10 years. According to 343. Halo 4 will have taken 3 years by its release date.

Haha true, many games have been culprits of that recently.

And lets hope rhat 343i employee is right, 3 years development cycle sounds great. I still can't get Don Mattrick's quote out of my head though and the fact that nobody corrected him or picked up on it, with the rate that Halo games have been released as of recently I wouldn't be surprised either.

In terms of console gaming,  which is what most of us are referring to in this thread (As Halo is in fact a console game).  It's one of the most milked console franchises currently on the market.  Falling in close proximity to Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, etc. There is very few games on the market that have been milked as hard as Halo has this generation.  Very few.

Grasping at straws on 'Upscaled' PS2 games is really reaching to epic proportions.  Even more pathetic is trying to incorporate Handhelds.   Just imagine if Microsoft had a handheld. Jesus Christ,  We would have 14 Halos on the market from 2009-2011.

Halo is one of the worst violaters in the industry today.  It's fine if it's all good and you enjoy the games but denying this just shows your true position and makes me laugh hysterically as you try to stand on your broken platform.

huh?.... a shoddy upscale of an old game is the epitome of milking... surely.  eff all effort for maximum profit.

Lol dude I know, these kids litteraly do not understand what the term "milking"  means I honestly just had one try to tell me that it was 100% ok for Sony to re-release the God of war game with only upscaled resolution for $40 but it isn't ok for MS to full revamp Halo 1 including a brand new graphics engine, orchestral score, and updates to multiplayer Xbox Live and Co-op for only $40.

The sheer ignorance involved hear is kind of blowing my mind.  This isn't even opinion based this is just facts, God of War a franchise that is YEARS younger than Halo already has more re-releases than Halo has in its entire history.  I don't even think they realize that God of War 1 came out in 2005 and God of War 2 in 2007, those games aren't even that old and yet they are saying that its totally justifiable to re-release them, and yet Halo 1 a game which came out in 2001 is "milking" to re-release it.

This doesn't come down to them thinking this is about milking.  It comes down to them being upset that a re-release of a 10 year old exclusive game is going to outsell every single 1st party exclusive PS3 has this year besides possibly Uncharted 3.  And the strangest part is I freaking LOVE God of War and am 2 trophies away from Platinum on it for God of War 3 and yet I still have to argue this stuff with these kids.......

MS is doing all that?! thats pretty nice, i really thought they were just gonna put out an HD version of the original with some new maps, but this sounds closer to remake territory. I dont know why i thought it was gonna be 60 too. Hell really 40 isnt that bad, its not like Halo 1 sucked, i liked it and im not even a Halo fan

Actually I am certain there will be a Halo game every year yet every Halo game will have more than 1 year of dev time simply because 343 studios is a rather large studio so each game will get the care it deserves (I am almost certain of that) and Halo fans get an awesome Halo game every year!

I wouldn't care if the games were great, one franchise entry per year is overkill.

Well I guess we will have to just agree to disagree then.

Fair enough, but wouldn't you feel a bit burnt out after a while of playing a similar game over and over? I mean I love Uncharted, but if they make a 4th one I wouldn't feel so enthusiastic to buy it. One of the best aspects of a game is how fresh it feels. If you like a franchise, you need to build up a "thirst" before you play the next installment, 1 year is nowhere near enough time for me, I would want at least a 3 year gap.
