Forums - Gaming - Worst merger to date?

Which merger is the worst for gaming?

Square-Enix 71 37.37%

Namco-Bandai 8 4.21%

Sega-Sammy 6 3.16%

Activision-Blizzard 53 27.89%

Square-Enix buyout of Eidos 8 4.21%

Take Two buyout of Rockstar 1 0.53%

I just wanna see the results 43 22.63%

Total:190

I personally dont like activision-blizzard but i would have to say that this merger was one of the most brilliant in the history of gaming - whether you like them or not these guys are making money hand-over-fist and regardless of their business ethics and milking of franchises this was still a genius decision. Therefore you cant just say that this is the worst merger ever - im sure everyone here has played some of their games (including COD) even if they hate the company.

Square-Enix - I dont think you can say that the merger was responsible for the lowering quality of FF titles - as Boutros has already pointed out there are some good FF (and other) games SE has released.

I'd say Sega Sammy. Sammy wasn't even a game company for the most part and added little to Sega. Since the merger SegaSammy hasn't created many decent titles and many long for the days when Sega was a lone wolf. I think they are improving but it was the worst merger for us gamers who liked Sega.

Of course financially it was a great deal for Sega!

I don't think quality issues was a result of squaresoft merger with enix, things happened before that.

I think they're intelligence dropped when sakaguchi did the movie they got into financial problems which was a godaweful decision.
Then Yoichi wada became ceo... Now I think everyone jumps on the square-enix hate wagon... as they've made a lot of fun games since. But they're not the quality they used to be. But the reason it's this way is because of the assinide desicion to make the movie.

They were considering merging before the movie, but the movie bombing delayed that. It wasn't necessarily wada's idea.

Worst for me is probably activision blizzard. Though I think this is more of blizzard not caring anymore because of the WoW money train... the game I like that they've done is Starcraft 2(Which includes many assinide things in it).

I agree in that the problem for Square-Enix was the movie.

Squaresoft developed FF X-2 before the merger and just after the movie bombed. The merger itself may have been due to the disaster that was the movie. Square was in the path of suckiness on its own. The merger may have made it worse perhaps, but I doubt it's the main reason.

Square and Enix....that day the industry died

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Activision-Blizzard

I like Blizzard the way it was.

I'd rather have a few too many mediocre game than the whole industry completely monetized. That is, Activision Blizzard is the greatest evil, even more so than Square Enix.

Square-Enix

it was a bleak day in the gaming community when the merger happened.

Maybe my comment wasn't appropriate at all.
I was just stating the fact that Squaresoft made most of my favorite games of all time and it all suddenly went downhill after the merge with Enix.

Don't you only own Nintendo consoles?

It seems people are voting for Square Enix just to jump on the hate bandwagon. Okay, so you love Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 1-10, and you don't like Final Fantasy XIII, but is that an excuse to write them off? No.

Square Enix have developed far more games with a much larger variety since the merge. Many of them are hit and miss, but they have still made many great and successful games. For me, Square Enix have made my favourite games this gen, not only on consoles but on handhelds too (FFXIII and CC:FFVII).

Square Enix have also been very successful when it comes to publishing games. Franchises such as Tomb Raider and Deus Ex are pretty huge.

Anyway, I voted for Activision - Blizzard, I'm not quite sure what games they produce but they sound like a poor mix and I don't like Activision.

Square-Enix. A merger of two of the best RPG developers around should've been amazing, rather than the atrocity it turned out to be
