Forums - Nintendo - Any word on the 3DS cut effect on initial sales?

In my local GAME today I saw several people buying a 3DS. For me the question is how much existing 3DS software sees a boost.

I showed a customer at work the 3DS and she thought it was great. She also told me that her kids wanted it but the problem was that it was too expensive. I told her the new price and it seems that she will plan on getting it for them. I really believe that the price was a big barrier. Now that the price is down i think sales will explode.

Price was big barrier but there's another barrier down the road, good games, once they come, the finish line will be under their feet.

I wonder if the price is a big barrier, what that means for the Vita?

I see only 2 3DS models the 1st and a lite

I see only 2 3DS models the 1st and a XL.

The idea of a 3DS Lite is ridiculous.

Well clearly with such a huge price cut the initial boost will be massive.

What matters is how long it lasts and presumably the contra will be that DS sales have fallen off a cliff.

Totally this.

Only if you believe that there was a massive number of people who had to decide between a DS and a 3DS in the last few months. At this point in a generation there are still plenty of late adopters who don't even think about the newest gaming system.

I think what will be hurting the DS more is that Nintendo stopped production of the cheaper DS Lite model.

It'll be, at this time, I think, swept along in the hype.

While 3DS is not quite THE most amazing thing ever right now, the vibe in the shops with that price must be very positive, and the price is logical still, even if still much more expensive than a good ol' DS.

Once 3DS levels after the pricecut, so will the DS.

Its nice to hear some positive news about the 3ds for a change.

For the first time since I bought a 3DS someone mentioned the system at work. A women said she had bought one for her daughter for Christmas because she wanted the new Mario Kart. It doesnt really mean anything but I was actually a bit surprised to hear someone mention the system

I wouldn't say ridiculous.  Not likely, maybe....but not ridiculous.  The bottom screen would likely stay the same size but the top screen can be made smaller and the layout can be changed.  Maybe even a slide out design instead of the current hinged "Clam Shell" design.  Who really knows?

3DS is sold out on Amazon.co.uk, they even raised the prices back up to £130 when it used to be £115. I think it's still £115 in Tesco but I'm not entirely sure.

Glad to hear comments such as 3DS being sold out or that one mother already bought her daughter one for a game that isn´t even publicily publicized. Maybe too soon but seems like a good indicator for me.

And as kowenicki said, if DS sales do plummet it`s a good indicator that people will replace their buying intention of getting a cheaper DS for a slightly pricier 3DS.
