Forums - Gaming - Has Rage gone too far with 22GB install?

Ask yourself why they would need a mandatory install when Blue-ray disks have more then enough room.

360's install is optional and if the PS3 has one then I can almost guarantee it won't be bigger then 6 gigs or so.

Gonna hafta delete alot of my older installs and some demos to make room if/when i pick the game up. What does it come on like 4 discs or something? I remember alot of big PS1 games like the Final Fantasies and some other ones came on 3-4 discs, but back then you couldn't install, so you were forced to swap discs every so often.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Seen this a couple times around different game forums. I'm not sure why this is even an issue.
If you have a 360, pop in the DVD and play. No worries.
If you have a PS3, like the other guy said, the install's not going to be that big.

So is this game going to be on multiple discs? If so, what's the big deal? I've installed all of the Lost Odyssey discs, Mass Effect 2, Blue Dragon, and a few other games. Sometimes, I keep all of the data installed. Sometimes, I delete them. It takes about 10 minutes (give or take) to install 5+ GB. Just install the discs as you get to them or when you're bored.

Of course, I won't be buying this game. It's not my style. Why am I even here?

If it's over 5GB's on the PS3 it's optional. Some rule SONY has set which is why MGS4 had to delete and rewrite to the HDD file in between acts. The only time it went to 7GB was if you also played MGO and downloaded it's freakishly painfully slow updates.

In the case of DC Universe i'm thinking it was an exception because of it being an MMO, and that 15GB was technically the entire game. It also jumped to 17GB with it's first big update which was either launch day or shortly after.

Slow disc read speeds. GoW3 and U2 showed that there were ways around it without a real install but those games were linear while Rage won't be.

I still doubt that the PS3 would have a bigger install then 6GB though.

The time is near, we will need to buy a new HDD to play the latest triple-A games. :)

"Hello Rob, have you played Half-Life 5? It's awesome!"

"Nah, I can't buy a new HDD now! And, my 7 HDDs are full of games at the moment I have to finish!"

"Too bad for you Rob!"

No big deal. It's optional on the 360 and the PS3 will likely have a much smaller mandatory installation. On PC this is pretty normal.

22GB install is huge but given what I've seen of Rage it looks damn impressive and I have a 250 GB HD so a 22gig install isn't that big of a deal to me. I'll just have to set it to install and then go do something else while I wait.
