So the only defense is an overstretched police force stuck using melee weapons. Meanwhile the rioters have knives, molotovs, clubs and anything else they feel like using.

Shoot them, thats the solution. Make them realize that burning cities to the grown, assaulting people and stealing from private businesses is a very serious crime.

Curfew + army. Simple solution, would stamp it out right away.

You really think harmless old Mr Cameron would declare a state of emergency?
