well moving away from torture have him have to watch constant muslim videos promoting muslim beliefs and values. That would drive him purely insane and have him read only muslim books and eat muslim food. That would torture him more than pain.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

some of the stuff he would have to watch actually would be torture.

yes that would be a good punishment, compounded with other things

Life imprisonment. Nothing more, nothing less. Let him live the rest of his life knowing what he did, and the fact that we won't stoop to his level. The other inmates will decide how long he has to do that.

shoot him with nail guns by firing squad. beat him with a spiked wipe, castration, regular beatings by Kimbo slice wearing spiked gloves, put raw meat on him as vulchers peck away at his flesh, regular cuts all over the body by razor and then thrown into a mixture of salt, alcohol(all types) ghost chili peppers, load a shotgun shell up with tiny shards glass, electro shock theropy while wet, place metal in select parts of the body then use high powered magnets to pull them out, put honey on his body and let the bees sting his ass up.

pretty much this, or what Samuel L Jackson does in the movie "Unthinkable".

frankly i think societies have become to tolerant of crimes, especially semi-socialist countries like norway, they think of the criminal as almost a victum.

sure i wouldnt want to watch that, but he still deserves it.

though something that is more feasable to happen would be death by firing squad.

though US prisons still arent 4 star hotels like they are in Norway, they are still very nice place, reletively speeking. you get rec time, food, clothes shelter, healthcare, etc all paid for them by the tax payer. so free living. even people on death row spend years in prison, wasting 10's of thousands of dollars, then when they finally are put to death, the get lots of doctors and staff on call, buy very expensive grugs and chemicals, all of this costs thousands, all just so he feels no pain, etc.

we can easily save money by killing them faster, and more affordable ways. also we no longer have things like chain gangs, were criminals actually do productive things for society. like work projects, building/constructing things. but no we dont do that any more, they just sit and relax in prison wasting millions of dollars

Umm, dude, prisoners work. They often do jobs no one else wants too because of the conditions involved, and they do it at a fraction of what non-Prisoners make. And if they can't get a job with an outside company, they mop floors or cook food or do laundry etc. They aren't doing nothing, at least not in the US. As for death row inmates, well, they wouldn't be so expensive if they weren't on death row. It costs more to have a death penalty trial and retrial than it does to keep a prisoner locked up for 30 years. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/254140/prison_work_just_how_much_do_inmates.html http://www.citizeneconomists.com/blogs/2009/04/16/death-penalty-cases-an-economic-viewpoint/

he is obviously trying to send a political message, so just lock him up for life or death penalty by injection and avoid doing anything that will make others think of him as a martyr. Criminal Punishment should not be about the criminal "getting what he deserves." Would killing him in a grotesque matter bring back all the people he's killed? No it will just be a way for people to vent out their anger. This revenge and anger mentality is was causes most of societies problems.

Apart from the obvious punishment (life imprisonment) it's already too late for the punishment I wished for this guy, a punishment which in fact would have reallly hit him in my opinion.

As it seems this guy planned right from the start to stay alive after the massacre the real punishment would be erasing his name, his pictures, his thoughts, his pamphlets from the internet and people's memory. Unfortunately in modern society this is impossible (40 or 50 years ago it would have been much easier). His Facebook pictures are all over the internet, news and newspapers, excerpts from his inflammatory pamphlets are cited everywhere.

He knows that his name will be remembered forever, he knows that there will be right wing people who will - in a few days or weeks - suggest that "we should at least discuss some of his points as not everything he wrote about muslims was completely wrong" or something along that line. His name remembered, his thoughts discussed. This is exactly what he wanted, this is where he succeeded, this is what makes the whole tragedy even worse and sadder.

Maybe that would have punished him, but it would also deprive society from the opportunity to learn about guys like him.
