GT5 and Halo Reach are so close this week!

What was that thread about GT5 having better legs? They're even and Reach is 10 weeks older

And is Reach still $59 at most retailers?

How can Wii be selling 120k this week, but Wii Sports Resorts only sell 74k? Wii Sports Resorts is bundled with essentially every Wii (except old inventory from over a year ago) in every region except Japan, which only recently started getting Wii's bundled with the game. This makes no sense, something isn't being tracked right... Even if you add Mario Kart and Wii Sports, you only get 122k in sales, does that imply no one bought Mario Kart, or Wii Sports off the shelf? I doubt that since Mario Kart was still a 20-30k weekly selling games.

Mario Kart plus Wii Sports is over 142k not 122k.

68k + 54k = 122k

Check your math.

If game sales are accurate, Wii sales are inflated. If Wii sales are accurate, Game sales are underestimated. Something just isn't adding up.

I meant Resort.  The Wii hardware in Japan includes Resort but not Wii Sports.  I don't know whether that is true in Korea as well, but in the past they didn't have Wii Sports bundled, same as Japan.

Yes, but Wii Sports Resorts numbers also add to this arguement. Wii Sports Resorts is bundled on every Wii in North America and Europe, and most of the EMEAA. It is now also bundled in Japan, so how can a game, which is bundled on at very least 85% of consoles sold, only selling about 55% as many units as systems?

I added Wii Sports and Mario Kart Wii because they are bundled with two different Wii systems outside of Japan, and some asian countries (like Korea). Wii Sports being the old inventory bundle, and Mario Kart the new one. If the sales of those games combined, just barely passes te number of Wii figures sold outside Japan, something is amiss. Mario Kart Wii was a 25k selling game prior to bundling, and I bet Wii Sports is probably selling moderatly well to new console buyers.

I personally feel software is under estimated for the Wii, Wii Sports Resorts to Wii console sales ratios were a lot closer in the past.

PS3 on top. Again. Shocking.

If PS3 does get a price cut to $199 this year then it will likely be on top. Probably not too ahead of 360 (it will get price cut too) but still ahead. I actually predict wii will be last these holidays if price cut does happen. And what will happen if Vita launches this holiday too? Sony will probably be bringing lots of money.

A lot of it is also overtracked too. We have way too many 1 Million sellers for Wii, according to Nintendo.

the more i think about it the more i think they will only drop the price by $50.

though i think they could afford to drop $100, they wont and heres why.

if they drop it by $100 this Christmas, then their margins will be around zero, and by the end of 2012, they will be making a little, but not enough to drop the price again.

i think they will want to drop the price coinciding with the wiiU launch, so more people will buy the PS3 than the expensive wiiU. so if the drop $50 this year, they will get a big price drop boost in sales, then they will drop it again by $50 in 2012 getting another boost, hurting Wii U sales.

if they dropped $100 now, they couldnt drop it at all next year

Wii might become last overall this holiday season, but even with a PS360 price cut this fall, I think Wii may still come in first for the month of December. Wii sales always grow exponentially at this time, last year we saw Wii sell 1.5 million in a single week! Even if Wii only manages a couple 1 million weeks, that's a level Sony has never accomplished with the PS3, and the 360 only just edged it last december.

Wii Sports Resort isn't bundled with every Wii.  The Mario Kart bundles don't include it, you seem to realize this, so I'm not sure what the point is in your first paragraph.  It doesn't make sense to use the Wii Sports figure and not the WSR number.  To my knowledge there are no bundles out there that contain only Wii Sports, but there are bundles that contain only Wii Sports Resort.  Your 122k figure ignores those.

Wii Sports has barely been selling anything in Japan recently.  In 2010 the Wii sold 1,674,438 while Wii Sports only sold 81,543.  That is less than 5% of new Wii owners, and you also have to consider this is a country where it wasn't a mandatory pack in from day one, so there are 7.5 million more Wii consoles in Japan than copies of Wii Sports.  Now compare that to America where 99.02% of Wii owners have Wii Sports AND there are still bundles left at retailers that contain it.  How many copies do you think it is selling stand alone?

It also stands to reason that new console owners were a big chunk of Mario Kart sales.  So when a bundle is available that contains it, sales of the individual software would go down.

OHHHHH

My honest mistake, I thought it was! So I guess there are two optional bundles, Wii Sports + Wii Sports Resorts, or Mario Kart.

That makes more sense then 120k Wii's, 142 k Wii Sports Resorts and Mario Kart. 22k for individual sales of Wii Sports Resorts and Mario Kart. That makes sense,

I mistook the bundles, I know the situation in Japan.

And actually the situation is even more complicated than this! The old, rich, Xmas Mario Kart Wii bundle included Wii Sports (but not WSR), while the latest, cheap Mario Kart Wii bundle includes just Mario Kart. And right now in my town some stores are also selling leftovers of the rich Xmas bundles for 20€ (too much, IMHO) more than the cheap ones. Enough to lose the thread while trying to do the maths.
