I'm surprised you think that statement would cause much of a stir.  This is a sales based site. From that perspective he is absolutely correct and it's rather measurable.  You just have some peoples opinions on your side with metacritic and reviewing publications. Every has an opinion and much like assholes I'm sure most of them stink.  Reviews hardly ever reflect the sentiment of the market.  Wii Sports, Wii Fit, and Mario Kart would have a much higher Metacritic were they anything close to representative.He has the hard earned dollars of the market on his side. You may want to ask yourself who's point doesn't have objective and measurable means because it doesn't seem like his.

Except sales do not indicate quality.  if they did, then Wii Sports, Wii Play, and Wii Fit are just the best damn games ever and Metroid Prime is mediocre at best. He was making a statement based on quality. Yes Final Fantasy is a better SELLING game series, but that's what happens when you're a 20+ year old franchise with consistently impressive sales and reviews. 

and look around, while some people may say MAss Effect 2 is overrated (may very well be), Final Fantasy XIII is aggressively divisive.  There are no measures where Final Fantasy XIII is 'better' than Mass Effect 2.  At best some players may like it better. 

Sales are the closest thing to an objective measurable means as we will ever come to indicating quality.  More sales means more people voting with their own hard earned income.  Wii Sports, Wii Play and Wii Fit are just the best damn games ever and Metroid Prime is mediocre at best.  That is how it will be remembered because more people are actively investing in the Wii Sports, Wii Play and  Wii Fit experiences.  They do so because they are seen as higher quality experiences.

Are you serious? Western games have already surpassed Japanese games years ago. Mass Effect 2 is only slightly overrated, while every single Jaoanese game is an RPG or a Nintendo game.
