Interesting how yesterday this was a "terrorist attack" and now its morphed to "confused white guy"...

Yeah, wth? Why the "confused"? More like completely insane

He's not insane. I mean, if he's insane then so are pretty much all right wingers, considering he just followed their rhetoric.

MrBubbles was actually just parodying media outlets, who called this a "terrorist attack" when the guy was believed to be a muslim, and now that it's shown that he's a white right wing christian, it's just a "confused"/insane individual. Instead of using the terms that would accurately describe him (right wing christian terrorist).

Seriously though... stupid political arguments aside. (Which i can't even believe are being made.)

How was there no one with a gun to shoot this guy after the first 10 or so victims?

I mean, there were no armed guards in this political kids retreat?

That just seems reckless.

This is Norway. These things don't happen here, nothing of this sort ever has. Besides stabbings out on town and a murder case now and then, there haven't been hostile actions like these since WWII in Norway.

Its different here, not everyone owns a gun. Do you send armed escorts with your kids to summer camp or summer school in the US? This is kind of the same thing. This summer camp has been going on for about 40 years without a single incident, the same with the retreats of the other youth wings of other parties, no one could ever have seen this coming and the need for armed guards and police would have seemed ludicrous to anyone.

And now we have the "honor" of housing the worst spree killer (with guns) in the history of the world... Unfathomable, to say the least.

I'd like to think there is one security guard with a gun... or at least someone near by.

I know there is at schools.

Spree Killers are an eventuality, that it hasn't happened in norway for a long time is probably just a testament to the small population size.

Nobody had a cell phone?

I'm just... confused how so many people could of been shot.

large group of people.  very small island.

the dots around the large building are all tents

It took the police 45 minutes to get there, which is not surprising if you look up the area in googlemaps.

Utøya, 8647, Hemnes, Nordland, Norway, Very remote sparsely populated area.

I would rather have stricter gun control then posting security guards with guns everywhere.

Except the probem with that is... when someone DOES have a gun... which criminals always will... they can do whatever the hell they want until the police can get out there.

Like... say this very case.

I mean, i'd rather people not comit crimes then have cops...

yet...

Except that would not have done jack shit. Even in the US, where people are allowed to carry guns, there has been almost no massacres stopped because someone had a gun and decided to shoot the perpetrator. Usually they end up shooting themselves once they realize they are more or less done. Statistically speaking, all that freedom to carry a gun does is provide nut cases with guns (shit, in Georgia you can sell used guns as long as the person you are selling it to provides you with an ID they are over 18 and SAY they are licensed, no proof of it needed), it allows for a proliferation of arms due to there being demands and the proliferation just leads to more crime using guns, and finally, it does jack shit on the self-defense side when it REALLY matters. Basically, "this gun is for defense" is a whole load of shit when it comes to massacres like these. I would also LOVE to hear the argument about knives being deadly too, because I doubt someone would be able to kill 80 people with a knife.

OT: This is terrible. People like these shouldn't even be considered human. I say he shuold just be tortured and executed.

I've read a few excerpts from various forums that are trying to correlate his blog/book statements.

Essentially this is my understanding:

Guy has bad childhood due to getting in fights with Muslims. Believes they are taking over Europe, and blames socialist/labour politicians for letting them in. So he coldly caclulates how to massacre their children at a camp. Hits the PM building with bombs as a diversion, so he can attack the kids at this camp. He wasn't an adherent to religion outside of a vague belief he was doing it for "The Church" although condemns the Protestant church (as he believes his 'good works', not God's grace will get him to heaven). He also cited "training" via Modern Warfare 2 which he expoused as being critical to his training :-

He seems fully conscious of what he's done. He is not 'crazy' in the sense that he randomly did this. It took a cold, calculating psycopath on the level of movie villians to do this.... Not a fly-by-night ruffiant.

Sounds like something out of a Uwe Boll film. Horrible stuff. My prayers are with everyone involved in the tragedy.

Damn, I think this won't be good for the video game industry in general, and for FPSs in particular.

I'd bet money on him having a sevre paranoia disorder and believing in one of the "Big 3" conspiracy groups as real.

He mentioned the Free Masons in one of his forum posts.

Quote from o ne of his forum posts:

Today's Protestant church is a joke. Priests in jeans who march for Palestine and churches that look like the minimalist shopping centers. I am a supporter of an indirect collective conversion of the Protestant church back to the Catholic. In the meantime, I vote for the most conservative candidates in church elections.

I think he probably admired the pope. Not surprised.

He's not really right wing if you read his posts. He's anti racist (arabs are ok so long as they aren't muslim?) Pro Homosexual, and Pro Israel. His ideaology is a very interesting mix of things. Though he definitely hates Islam.

I read his forum posts. I don't know where you got all that. He's definately right wing, and considering his religious views, he is not pro-homosexual in the slightest.

Considering that less than 2 years ago this happened at a U.S. military installation, it's not so surprising.

I saw a journalist saying that Norwegian politicians regularly eat at restaurants without any security. The country is (was?) simply assumed to be quite safe even for politicians.

Except this had like.... 3 times the deaths... and in the fort hood case he used specific clearences to get past security. Had he used the same techniques as the guy in this case... he'd of been arrested at the front gate.

No country is safe from spree killers no matter your beliefs.

Reason is, most spree killers are ultra paranoid conspiracy theorists... even if your the most peaeful nuetral country in the world, a spree killer in waiting will just see  it as part of the conspiracy of you working for the Free Masons, or Illuminati or jews or whatever.

Well, in this case he seems to have been a Freemason who supports the Jews.
