Honestly, it doesn't surprise me that most progressive individuals are ignorant of the ideology they support and its origins ...

Why don't you point to HS arguing about screening muslims, rather than arguing him spinning it? If you want to argue someone about screening Muslims, Trestes was the first to mention it.
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

you do know fascism/naziism, is of the left, right? |
Nah it's more middleground.
Though progressives were big founders along with right wing authortarians.

You do know that it's not, right? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fascism Fascism was founded by Italian national syndicalists during World War I who combined left-wing and right-wing political views, but it gravitated to the right in the early 1920s. |
While facism is a middleground thing...
progressives were instrumental in it's creation.
Progressivism keep in mind holds as central fact that changes in society should be top down and be implemeneted by strict government oversight.
And progressives tend to put an increased imporance in "groups of people."
Which is basically exactly what National Syndicalists are for.
A good example is to point out that the Progressive movement in Australia is reffered to as "The Third Way'.
Which is actually what Hitler called his economic policy. I'm guessing they probably aren't aware of that.

No need to be an ass about it. I wrote it because everyone and their dog seemed to think it was Muslim extremeists.

Yeah, I'm sure increasing the screening of people of Middle Eastern descent would've prevented the blonde blue eyed Norwegian from commiting this. This event really shows why racial profiling is inherently flawed. |
A) It actually depends. If this guy was a right wing nutjob. Chances are it actually WOULD have prevented it. However if he was a nutjob who latched on to right wing beliefs because he wanted to shoot someone, he probably would of just approached it from the other angle.
B) Why does it show racial profiling is inherently flawed? I mean, there was no case where he was suddenly let go because he was white that we know of... or really any case in general that suggests any less racial profiling would of stopped this.
Aside from which, you'd have to show that the current racial profiling they do isn't accuracte. IE that there are proportionally as many people committing these acts that are of one race, then the race being profiled against.
The real problem with racial profiling is that it does work to a certain degree and is rude. If it didn't work it wouldn't happen.
Racial profiling is just like any other kind of profiling. It's based off of actual statistical data most of the time.
You know what race people look for when a serial killer is on the loose? White... because statistically he's likely to be white, so they focus more on white people since they only have limited time and manpower.
Honsetly, I thought the guy was going to white myself after i heard about the mass shootings because white guys are supposed to be spree killers more often too... not really Terrorist MO to be honest with you.
Most people lead with the bombs though... and originally the death spree didn't seem as high. So i can see why people thought it was more likely to be muslim jihadists.
Also you were just talking about stricter immigration policies... in this same thread... so that your suddenly acting holier then thou about something he didn't even say is... really just funny.

Seriously though... stupid political arguments aside. (Which i can't even believe are being made.)
How was there no one with a gun to shoot this guy after the first 10 or so victims?
I mean, there were no armed guards in this political kids retreat?
That just seems reckless.
