Forums - Gaming - Capcom sucks

Capcom can't win either way. People complain about rehashing and lack of innovation, but when they 'mix' up dmc or Resident Evil with new types of games people turn their noses up.

I'll go on record and say that, personally, I liked the new direction that RE4 took the series.  I tried RE1 on Gamecube a couple of weeks ago and it scared the shit out of me (I died on the second zombie I saw) but it bored me to tears.  I'm also hoping for good things with DMC since I didn't really like DMC4.  I don't mind if Capcom does new things.  My problem with them is when they re-release the exact same thing with minimal upgrades......and I still buy them.

*edit* Now that I think about it, I bought RE4 twice, too!!

RE4 had it's fair share of pessimists but I was more refering to the reaction the Slant Six one coming out this holiday... I've no idea what it's even called :D.

I'm still butthurt by the "Capcom Five" for the gamecube thing...

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

I also own Metal Gear Solid (PS1), Twin snakes (GC), MGS VR Missions, MGS2, MGS2 Substance, MGS3, MGS3 Subsistence, and MGS4. I intend to buy the MGS HD collection on PS3 later this year. I own Peacewalker on the PS3 and I plan to buy MGS3 for the 3DS, too. I guess you can accuse Konami of the same thing but you would be wrong. Metal Gear is too good of a series and is hereby given a free pass.

Capcom's always been doing this. Mind you it's gotten worse cause atleast before they just gave you sequels to death, now they're rehashing games. My only gripes are that they should make all these rehashes DLC at this point. I mean I want the new 12 characters in Marvel vs Capcom and to be frank would be worth the price of a new game as I'd go from one 60 dollar game with 16 characters to the next 60 dollar games with the next set of 16 characters (12 of which were from the first game). Though ultimately my complaint would be that Capcom's execs have become way too stingy. I mean their games have been selling a shitload lately (I mean the only fighting game from Capcom that got greatest hit status was Street Fighter Alpha 3, all PS2 and PSX games arn't), and it's not enough for them. For instance, Devil May Cry 4 sells the most in the series at what, 2.5 million, and it's not enough for them to the point where they have to reboot the entire series? I love Capcom, they were my favourite dev, but they've fallen quite down.

I still like Capcom, I'm just kinda disappointed in them. I don't like the direction they've gone with Resident Evil and the constant re-release of games is annoying.
However, they've given me Monster Hunter Tri and Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes this gen so I can't be mad at them

If they remake Rival Schools, I'll forgive them. I'm so shallow..........

But weren't they always like this? How many versions of Street Fighter II were there back in the day?

Street Fighter II
Street Fighter II Special Champion Edition
Street Fighter II Turbo
Super Street Fighter II
Super Street Fighter II Turbo

Just check the first 2:20 of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEVzPCY2T-g

Capcom has always been the master of rehashes and updates, since NES.

Street Fighter was the only one, back in those days (don't forget SF Alpha, SF Ex, and SF.  The running joke was that Capcom couldn't count to three.  We used to get new games from the Breath of Fire, Gargoyle's Quest, Mega Man (oh, did we get Mega Man), X-Men/Marvel Super Heroes, Darkstalkers, Bionic Commando, Strider, Maximo/Ghosts and Goblins, Rival Schools, Onimusha, etc.  I think it was around the PS1 era that the disease spread to other series (especially Resident Evil).

Now, when we get Resident Evil, we get RE Gold.  When we get Dead Rising, we get "Off the Record".  When we get Marvel vs. Capcom 3, we get Ultimate MvC 3.  I figure that by next gen, the updated version of a game will actually release two days before the regular edition!

Not an expert in NES and SNES library, so I guess you're right. I'll admit this generation has been the worse for them in that respect, too.

Dragon's Dogma and Asuma's Wrath look like decent new IP's too... hard to tell this early but they're the sort of games you don't see anyone else making nowadays. I don't think any of the other third parties from the east can really claim to have had all that great a generation, albeit I think that all stems from everything being handheld over there, whereas we tend to judge these publishers on their console offerings.

You make a good point, but Capcom has lost too many of their key players. Those games you speak of will have to be played first an establish themselves. I am awaiting Asuras Wrath as well and I hope it isn't just a one time game.

You forgot to mention how they screwed over Keiji Inafune and Devil May Cry
