Not sure because I don't know what Nintendo was thinking making a price drop in the middle of the summer with no good game releases in site. 50 bucks off alone does not a hotcake make.

no. sales jumped for a little bit, but as other users said, there has been no big title releases. That is where it is hurting them. Sales won't go back up until the holidays.
I think it did what Nintendo expected from it, after all, there were no new games; no hardware revision like Sony and MS had. How much could Wii sell on a price cut. Iwata mentioned a few years ago that a price cut alone would only get you so far, that`s why Nintendo was reluctant on lowering price to raise sales on the long run.
What Nintendo should have done to keep higher sales, was keeping a steady flow of Nintendo Select games on the market and lowering the price of Wii Fit to half (it`s summer after all!). Here in Portugal, for example, Wii Fit still sells for more than 90€. Imagine a Wii with Mario Kart and Wii Fit pack, all for 200€. Wouldn`t that work even better?

I think it did what they were expecting. It boosted their sales in a period when they had no games that they wanted to release. These boosted sales will result in more overall Wii's being in people's household during the holiday season, which inevitably leads to more games selling during the holiday season.
Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.
It made it the market leader for the month (and is infact still the leader). The Wii is dead. Xenoblade and SS are the only games which may push sales. It meant the Wii is still in touch with the rest, so yes. It did OK.
It will do well in the holidays especially if it's sold for 100$... however it is failing big time now!

After adjustments I doubt it.

That's the point. It won't push consoles, but then again, nor will Zelda really.
When your biggest SW seller is a niche JRPG, the first proper one in the console's 5 year history, you know you're in trouble.
(Also, after adjustments, I still reckon it will be on top in June.)
Just saw that Wii Play Motion has already been released and even then it didn`t keep Wii sales up. In comparison with Wii Party, which sold 318,399 in the first week, Wii Play Motion doesn`t seem to be doing really well. To be fair, Wii Party released in October last year, which helped sales a lot, but Wii Play Motion released after a price cut.
Motive for concern or will this one keep on selling nicely for a long time?
