Forums - Sales - *Who could join the "System Wars" & be successful next gen?*

Could anyone make a system and release it next gen and have success?

I personally think that the following 4 publishers could make a system to some success: Ranked by chances of success from low to high.

#4) Sega__Sega could get back into the system business do to them having previous experience, and it would be hyped up do to old Sega fans wanting a return for years. The only problem is would people welcome back the older Sega franchises as well as trust Sega after DreamCast was taken off the market so early. I also think that times of changed since 1999. I think that a DreamCast like system could have the potential to do well in todays market like the Wii.

#3) EA__ EA has the potential to do well in the system market because it has all of the major sports games as well as the sims. Games like Madden, and Fifa have the potential to sell systems not to mention BattleField, Dead Space, and Mass Effect. All of these franchises are probably going to increase in sales with each new game as they all have potential to grow.

#2) Capcom__Capcom could see a level of success with franchises such as Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and Monster Hunter. Monster Hunter continues to grow in Japan and has potential in America and Europe...Capcom would need to be a success in Japan for this to happen.(It can't be Microsoft and sell well without Japan)

#1) Activision__Crash Bandicoot & Spyro together would take over the market! LOL...just kidding we all know that Call Of Duty would allow Activision to have their own system. Call Of Duty has becaome a HUGE franchise bigger than Halo. We all know that Halo was the main reson for the 1st XBox's success...COD could do the same for Activision. This could also push Microsoft to fall...

Apple, IBM, mabye Sega doing a handheld.

Go Team Venture! I still don't get the Wii, PS Move,  and Kinect.

no one, too many players and platforms already ...

nintendo, sony, MS, valve, apple, google, onLive

@ anyone who suggests EA - a large portion of their franchises, particularly sports ones, are only licensced to them on the condition that they make them for all viable platforms. If EA made a console, they would still have to make Madden games for Ninty, Sony, MS etc, or they would lose the franchise to Activision.

@ anyone who suggests Apple - that would hardly be joining, Apple already joined the "system wars" and is already successful

I think Apple could pull it off, as could Sega, as long as they made it relatively cheap and modeled it somewhat off the Wii. Meaning make it appeal to the masses and make it emphasize easy to pick up gameplay, but not too dumbed down *cough* KINECT *cough*

None of them will launch a home console as they are developers/publishers. If any of them launches a console they would be forced to release their games only on their platform which would mean less people buying their games = less money earned = bad business = angry shareholders that would fire the CEO.

Only a "new" company like Apple could do it, but which support would 3rd parties give to them given their price policy? And how many people that buy iPod/iPad games would want to play those games on the TV?

Please excuse my bad English.

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

SEGA doesn't have a strong enough IP lineup, and EA, Capcom and Activision all rely upon multiplatform sales to survive, especially EA and Activision.

prob google or apple though i like it the way it is.

Apple: Apple failed miserably at making consoles in the past, but that could change if they integrate it into iOS, and their other services. They make good (abeit expensive) hardware, and with the 3rd party suport that they already get on iOS, they could make a decent console.

Google: With YouTube, Android, Google+, and Google TV, Google is slowly taking over electronics. They aren't a hardware company, but they could always outsource the hardwarre to Samsung. I think they would be a major contender in the console biz. They are hiring for an organization called "Games at Google" so maybe they are planning to enter. Google could even do a better job then Apple.

Sega: Sega really cleaned up their reputation with the DC, and they still have a strig following. They could retur to the console biz, but they will need to show the customers that they care, or it will be Dreamcast all over again.

I think Sega could make there own handheld and it would be successful. :)
