Forums - Nintendo Discussion - An interesting fishing game? Namco's new open world resort

Hmm another game I may check out. I'm want Go Vacation, and I may get this if it's done right.

Hmmm. XSeed taking the game as 'Fishing Resort' to North America, you lucky guys. It's surprising that they are releasing both Go Vacation and Fishing Resort during this fall in NA. I've seen people confuse the titles, although the theme is different they are similar games. How will they fare together?

I was sold at fishing penguins :)
Just wonder what innovative fishing gameplay might be like.

It's made by Prope so at least we know it should be good. Another thing that I really love about this game is the EPIC controller - hopefully that makes it over to the US as well.

Other than that, I still don't understand the reason behind bringing over two very similar looking games at the same time. Maybe Namco believe this holiday season to be the last opportunity for software on Wii...

The only thing I'm afraid of is that by having both games out now, customers will be confused and may perceive them as more shovelware, ending up buying neither. Hopefully that's not the case since XSEED wouldn't need this to sell nearly as much as Go Vacation for Namco, and would probably advertise it to a much lesser extent.

edit: If these sell well, I'm hoping for a nice boost to the sales of Blue World too.

Can this happen? Though similar (same series), they are different games. But I agree, Go Vacation should have been out during the summer.

Added a gameplay clip to the OP. It shows the swordfish section I liked from the trailer because it looked like action fishing. First Get! Gameplay wise it seems repetitive - maybe it's better with the controller. But the fish caught in the stream was moving a lot.

EDIT: What? No controller... sorry US.

It's really a matter of perception, it's not something objective. Just like how LKS failed because of presentation. On the other hand if both games are perceived as similar in style to Namco's "We Ski" series, that's not exactly a bad thing, as those were good games that did find a market.

Regarding the peripheral, I am disappoint. XSEED are taking questions in the comments to the siliconera article, and they do say the gameplay is unique, even without the controller. Hopefully they can find a way to convey that to the consumer.

If you look at the sales of We Ski and We Ski & Snowboard here in VGChartz, there is a drop in sales for the next year sequel since it was perceived to be the same with just added snowboards (and they are correct there). Now we have two open world resort games releasing together, I say they'll cannibalize themselves rather than being perceived as shovelware. Anyways it's subjective matter like you say.

Now, going to Siliconera to read that article. EDIT: They told you to import the controller LOL The qualities he says are better than other fishing games are present in the Go Vacation game, that's why we both think they could hurt each other. It still might be fun to have another island to explore and fish!

Yeah, I should have been more accurate when I said that. In an earlier post I mentioned cannibalization, which is a legitimate concern IMO. When I mentioned shovelware, I was referring to the fear that the consumer might see two more similar looking "family games" on the shelf this christmas, in addition to the already available many crappy ones, and just lump them all together.

Namco may or may not have the ability/will-power to make Go Vacation stand out from the crowd, but with XSEED I am less certain. Even if they do have a good marketing plan for this game, having two similar games BOTH stand out is far more difficult.

I have similar concerns regarding Mario Party and Itadaki Street. The latter won't sell poorly, but might "fail" by Nintendo standards.
