1998 is definitely arguably the greatest year in gaming. But we also can't forget 2005 the year we got the following games
Battlefield 2
Resident Evil 4
God of War
GTA San Andreas
Mario Kart DS
Dragon Quest 8
and of course...SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS
and the list goes on...2005 is definitely a runner up

That's pretty damn good, but 2001 and 2007 were also amazing. My vote is for 2001.

Yes, jsut checked. Secret of Mana and Illusion of Gaia were 1993, Chrono Trigger and Terranigma 1995. So 1994 was an excellent year, but nothing special back then...

2010 is my best.
Do not remember 1998, I was only 5 years old.
But clearly it is the best year for people who had buying power and are in a position to remember that year, wow @ the games coming out in that year.
And that list of games from 1998 makes me realize Zelda :OOT wouldn't even be in my Top 5 for the year if I make a list of my fav games from 1998!
The 1980's and 1990's in general was a golden era in gaming.
Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!
Kojima: Come out with Project S already!
