One thing I never noticed on previous playthroughs is that the baby dodongos in Dodongo's Cavern are bomb-gobblers.

Try it out. Go in a hallway with some baby dodongos, wait for them to come out, and set down a bomb. They will make a bee-line for it, gobble it up, and die.

It's kind of cute.

Cute in a way that mass infanticide can only be

Dodongo’s Cavern – now sporting a grand total of three adult specimens! Come see the fearsome beasts in their natural habitat! Marvel at the splendor of the only child dungeon open to adult visitors! Tickets sold at the entrance – food can be found on site!

Disclaimer: We cannot be held responsible for any damage incurred during the tour. If you believe yourself to be prone to experiencing an existential crisis at the thought of having your race’s male pride be emasculated by the achievements of a small forest child, remember that the irony isn’t lost on anyone.

Explosive and/or flammable goods are prohibited!

Wait, Link was twelve in the original Zelda? Damnation! And sixteen in AoL.

Link is pretty much the baddest kid of all time, I guess.

Ok, I've soldiered on today, blasted through the Water dungeon... killed Dark Link with the Master Sword (admittedly I did lose all of my 9 hearts and had to use a fairy, then I remembered not to use z-targeting), then went back in time (for the first time in the play-through) and got the lens of truth from the well, back forward in time and went through the Gerudo fortress, and found the colossus. Then back in time again to do the child portion of the Spirit Temple (I realise I could have done the well section in this bit of time traveling but well, shush) and back forward, and completed the spirit temple... And finally just entered the Shadow temple and did the first bit (finding the hover boots).

I don't think I'll bother doing much more than the main story anymore, I will pick up skultula and pieces of heart as I pass them as usual, and as I have started it, I may complete the mask quest. I want to move onto Majora's Mask too so will probably ignore Master Quest.

Started Link's Awakening. Died 6 times on day one, partially from the fact that the Tail Cave dungeon refused to yield me hearts if i fell out of the boss arena, so even if i was down low, i was stuck

Surprisingly fun for all that, especially since it's my first old-style 2D Zelda ever

Definitely not feeling Spirit Tracks, though that's not too surprising, considering how I felt about Phantom Hourglass. Wish my Wii was working so I could get back to my Ocarina playthrough.

Link's Awakening is unforgiving, yes, though death rarely becomes a problem in later dungeons, in my experience. The dungeon design, however, can be... uh, prone to forced backtracking (moreso if you mess up).

By the way, you are aware that you get the 'best' ending if you beat the game without losing a life, correct?

HERE THERE BE SPOILERS: AVERT YOUR EYES (damn the lack of color highlighting and/or spoilertag)

The one where you see that Marin became a sea-gull, or the one where you get to fight Ganon?

SPOILERS AGAIN:

It must be the first, as I'm sure as hell Ganon doesn't appear in Link's Awakening, bar the Ganon form of the final boss.

Correct. Ganon is one of the forms taken by the final Nightmare, but that's it. I believe Mr. Khan might have been thinking of the Oracles games, where Ganon is the true final boss.
