Forums - Nintendo - So I've never played Pokemon... which one would be best to start with?

Which generation of Pokemon would be the best to start with?

Red/Green/Blue/Yellow (GB) 16 29.09%

Gold/Silver/Crystal (GBC) 4 7.27%

Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald (GBA) 0 0%

FireRed/LeafGreen (GBA) 9 16.36%

Diamond/Pearl/Platinum (DS) 2 3.64%

Black/White (DS) 11 20.00%

Better don't start at all 1 1.82%

Only show me the results 12 21.82%

Total:55

Title says it all. Although I own every Nintendo console there is, I have never played Pokemon.

... (I'll give you a few minutes to laugh and rant) ...

OK. When you're done, Id like you to give me a recommendation.

What game/generation would be the best start?

Or on the other hand, which would you NOT recommend?

I'm looking forward to hear lots of tips/impressions/recommendations.

(I hope I got the poll titles right. BTW I'd play the Japanese versions.)

I'd recommend going 1st ---> 2nd ---> 5th(B&W)

you're not missing much by skipping 3rd and 4th imo, especially 3rd

So maybe Pokemon Yellow (or FireRed if you want) ---> Heart Gold ---> Pokemon White :D

Ha ha ha!! That's a good one.

On more serious notes, you gotta start with the first generation! So Blue, Red, or Yellow.

They were all good, but I would say I liked Ruby/Sapphire the least.

Actually, I liked the second generation the least. But maybe it was because I bought my Crystal version used, and it kept freezing at randomly but often occuring intervals. So when I was young and stupid, I went back to GameCo. and they cleaned it, but I was dumb and I didn't want it back, so I traded it for a Spongebob game, which is infinitely worse.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

Thanks!
So the original 150 are in every game down the line?

yeah

Even in the latest gen which consists purely of new Pokemon up till you beat the game (meant to be a franchise refresh or something) - - - All the newer Pokemon generations have the previous gens Pokemon data

Theres no Heart Gold/Soul Silver on that list, cause thats the one id recommend or play Fire/red and Leaf/Green (GBA)

heartgold and soul silver is the best pokemon game but i would also recommend black and white its really amazing to

It'd be easier to start with one of the DS games. If you want the "original," i'd suggest you go for Fire Red Leaf Green, because the actual original games are incredibly unbalanced (pick a Psychic type and pwn everything), but if you want to start with one the DS games, i'd start with Diamond/Pearl

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

just get the pokemon gold/silver if you can. All of them have stupid stories. No point in playing all of the games unless you have a goal to collect every single pokemon without cheating. Considering you have never bought a pokemon game before you probably aren't fanatical enough to want to do that. The new pokemon mostly look like a 5 year old's doodles. There have been very very few new things added since the 2nd generation that actually improve the game. Gold and silver are the longest games because once you beat the main game you can travel to the 1st generation location and beat all the gym leaders there. You could also just get heartgold/soulsilver since its just a remake, but I would not bother with any of the other ones. This is coming from someone who owns at least one game from every generation except black/white.

Damn, I forgot HeartGold/SoulSilver. :/
And I can't change the poll now. But I'll keep in mind that a lot of people recommend it.
