Forums - Nintendo - Up Close and Personal With the Wii U Hardware

They seem to have taken too many essentially identical photos.... I want to see a better close of the back of the controller, and also... does the machine not stand upright? There seem to be two nipples on the side with the air holes, my guess is they are there to hold it in place in a stand.

They are probably to prevent the vents from being blocked by a neighboring book or something... I don't think the console stands up.

OT: I'm somewhat disappointed at the lack of any high-speed expansion slots for future proofing (unless one of those is a USB 3.0 port).

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

If they aren't blue they aren't 3.0.

That reminds me, we've already talked about this before. If you missed it, here is a more hands on look at the hardware.

Some information given in the video is wrong. The WiiU can't stand, those "legs" are to keep the vents open... and there are plenty of those. It's also wrong about some sockets, here is a more detailed one from the article:

For anything other than the USB slots on the back, I'm really digging the design!

Nice video!

And I agree, those are not feets. Have you ever seen a desk or a chair with 2 feet? They can have 1 or 3, never 2. It's not stable.

Lots of ventilation... an indication of a powerful hardware?

Please excuse my bad English.

here's a question: given that Wii U will probably not be multi-region, which console is the best to get from a game library point of view? After this gen I'd be inclined to think PAL rather then NTSC. That'd at least allow me to play the Wii games I missed out on, but I may end up missing even more American games for the new system...
(All this is assuming I buy the thing in the first place, of course.)

Looks like the old 360 and the Wii had a baby.

That was my first thought when I saw it. I think that's what Nintendo is going for, too.

"This is your Wii60."

Now, let's have wildgueses on how the other consoles's babies would be.

Above: still the best game of the year.

I like the new design... somewhat. I mean, it looks good but the more i look at it, the more i liked the one that came with the rumors! :D Seems more fresh!
Looking at the image in the video it seems you could dock the console like you do with the Wii. Which is actually something i don`t know if it`s good.
I don`t if people will be as open to Wii U with this design, as they could be with another design. It reminds me a good deal of Wii but with curvs, especially the front side.

No, watching the video I am almost certain that the little nubs are meant to fit into some form of stand... if the stand has the female counterpart (that the nubs fit into) they will make sure the machine doesn't slip sideways in it.

Thanks TomaTito btw for the video and the picture.
