No Nintendo is still trying to appeal to casuals. Seriously Wii 'U'...that's it?! Sounds gimmicky. No new controllers beside the main one, will be using Wii remotes still. are they so lazy to not create new ones?! I see this as failing hard as the GameCube for various reasons.

Repurchasing 300-400 dollars in controllers that are barely better than the Wiimote+/nunchuck combo sounds like a better option...

I'm not really convinced the same people saying the Wii U is doomed were also saying prior to E3 that Nintendo needs to go HD. For instance, Michael Pachter has been famous for being wrong about everything thumping on about the need for a Wii HD, but now he says that Nintendo may be a day late and a dollar short since this thing isn't launching for a year or more. That's not contradictory, since he's been talking about Wii HD literally for years now and feels Nintendo may have just missed the boat. So who, specifically, are you talking about? I mean, it'd be just as easy for me to say, "Yeah, Nintendo fans are a bunch of hypocrites. One minute they're fellating Nintendo for Malstrom's 'good enough' revolution and the next they're wetting themselves over a Zelda HD tech demo." But since every Nintendo fan isn't responsible for the utterings of all Nintendo fans, that's obviously not the case. Ditto for Nintendo critics.

Uh Pachter was saying they needed to release it just a few months ago when Wii sales dipped a bit, I bet if there was no WiiU announcement at E3 he would still be harping on it.  He's saying things to get attention, bottomline on that one.

As for the people, I can scrounge up the quotes, but it will have to be a day when I don't have work cause I'll have to run through peoples post history

MaxwellGT2000 - "Does the amount of times you beat it count towards how hardcore you are?"

The only problem I have with this statement is "with tons of PS360 footage" cause publishers ALWAYS end up showing footage from PC versions for the consoles, so it's not like it's something new.  And I'm not talking about skeptics obviously cause skeptics don't go "It'll bomb cause everyone already owns a PS3 or 360" when a few months before they were saying how Nintendo is "domed" unless they bring out a HD console to cater to them, that isn't skeptical reaction that's flat out moving the goal posts as they see fit to always keep it out of the range of what Nintendo is trying to do for gaming.

IA. You know how people love to troll, you know that better. lol

I also think it's not that easy to move on from Wii to WiiU if Wii owners also have either of the HD consoles and PS360 are their preferred gaming platform as well.. We can't blame them if they are holding out for Sony and MS next consoles. I mean let's face it, besides the motion controls, what really move Wii units away from PS360 was its price. Then we have to remember how much the HD consoles sold really well even if tthe price are twice higher than Wii. It's not just that easy for Nintendo next gen. ofcourse they wouldn't be doing bad like GC/N64 bad due to their IPs.

Well I completely agree. And admittedly I am one of them, not a hater but a skeptic. I don't know enough about the WiiU to judge it, nobody does. But it does look like the controllers will be expensive. I was just hoping for them to go more of the N64 and GameCube route.

The bottom line is, the unveiling was piss poor, there was no excuse for how bad it was. Barely any games were mentioned (definitely not exclusive ones), I didn't even know it was a new console until the last 5 minutes of the conference, the controller just seems awkward and NOT innovative.

Throw in the fact that Nintendo has just overcomplicated the matter by announcing you can only use ONE of these controllers, the rest will have to be Wiimotes etc and the name "Wii U" is absolutely awful and will confuse the consumer into thinking this is an add-on, just like what happened with the 3DS. If hardcore gamers watching the conference thought Wii U was an add-on how the hell do they expect the casual market to know it isn't an add-on.

The ONLY thing I can compliment is the screen on the controller because of the ability to play games on it without the TV and to use it for menu's etc. Still, it brings complications, Nintendo are shitting on the 3DS with the controller design and the thing will be bulky and expensive. I can't see myself playing Call of Duty on that thing.

I'm not a "hater", I know a flawed console when I see one. It's not so much the console itself, but it was the piss poor unveiling aswell.

I am sure when it is released that no one will be confused.  Just because E3 didn't reveal too much info and made you confused doesn't mean shit when they actually release it.  You think most consumers are going to be like man this thing was revealed so confusing at E3 there is no way I am going to buy one once it is released.  Most consumers probably got their Wii U info from local news, cable news, etc...  Those news agencies were able to report it was a new console.  You took everything that was vague or not even mentioned and made it turn out to be the end of the world because they didn't release the specs to you.  OMG I am so confused must turn into flawed system pretty quickly for you.  The system is a year away or more from release.  What you expect them to do show you 20 games already finished, complete system specs (even though the specs might not even be finalized)...

I didn't comment on anything I didn't know, hence the reason why I kept referring to the UNVEILING as piss poor.

And when I see the product as a whole and everything I actulally know about it, I am still not entirely convinced. The controller is a huge deal breaker for me, too many phericals for too many different games just overcomplicates things, and barely any decent games have been announced for it. Sure the console is a year away but there should be far more games than what they announced, any new console that is being unveiled should at least have a few 1st party exclusives to show.

In the end, the consoles unveiling was poor, and what they did unveil wasn't impressive and just seemed impractical.

Reminds me of a sketch from Louis CK (AWESOME standup comedian) where he talks about how one of his daughters just CONSTANTLY needs to want something. This is the attitude I saw in spades from forum posters and even professional journalists: just nothing but juvenile, self-entitled BITCHING about how the WiiU is doomed and pointless and how the conference was somehow a bomb DESPITE NINTENDO DOING A+EXACTLY WHAT THESE UNGRATEFUL ****ING BRATS HAVE BEEN DEMANDING!!!!!!! This entire exercise has been a lowpoint in gaming culture that shows just how badly the community is in the gutter.

Im sorry but a gimmicky tablet isnt gonna persuade me to get a wii 2 or whatever its called!!!

CALL ME WHEN 3RD PARTY SUPPORT HITS THE CONSOLE

I feel like Nintendo is starting to revert back to its hardcore focus again, so that could be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it. I think their game library will improve (at least in the eyes of the core) and third party support be be much improved from Wii, but I see Nintendo facing a sales decline as a result of moving away from the mass market and blue ocean approach. They will be fine though. It will be like an NES to Super NES decline. In the end, most people won't notice it because of the quality library.
