Forums - Gaming Discussion - So Duke Nukem forever ends up being a big dissapointment?

yeah its pretty bad lol but the jokes and duke himself is awesome

Well I loved Frontlines:FuelOfWar one of my favorite shooters on the 360. Yet the game got very bad stuff said about it by gamers. However that game did get a 7.5 from IGN so it couldn't have been that bad. I played the demo at PAX last year and was impressed, the demo was hilariously fun. So I will probably pick it up with my pre-order. Though if it turns out to be a dud, I better trade that sucker in fast to get the most bang for my buck!

I still want it.

Well they punished GT5 for a long development time, so....

Well, with a shift in developers, and an insanely long development time, this was only expected.

But if it's a Doom-style shooter, it can't be all that bad.

this game kind of stopped being able to be judged by conventional criticism a LOOOOOONG time ago. Like I once heard a music critic talk about Chinese Democracy "how do I JUDGE this? This is like I'm evaluating a unicorn!". I'm still getting it regardless of what people tell me.

Whiny bitch new generation gamers don't want to play a Doom Styled game in 2011?

Pretty much this. The spoiled new generation of gamers probably won't care because it isn't Call of Duty or Halo. Anybody who did buy this game probably had their eyes set on it for a very long time. This game does deserve better sales though.

The game can now be considered the biggest F**K up in gaming history

its only natural... this games were to high... 10 years to high of xxpectations, there was no chance it would reach any of them. To be honest it doesn't deserve any better than whats it getting now.

I disagree. I don't think hype killed it at all.

Stupid design choices murdered the game. Low, low regenerating health? Only two guns at a time? Terrible button mashing sequences? The guns looked weak, graphics were sub-par, idiotic "puzzle" sequences with the cars and (dare I say it) even the humor was obnoxious . . . not humorous. Two enemies will get your health down faster then Halo. Repulsive.

Duke Nukem should be all about testosterome and making you feel like a one man killing machine. Carry twenty guns,  bullet sponge while massacreing hoards upon heards of enemies in awesome and humiliating ways. Add in just enough downtime with puzzles, then lead in with tons of enemy types and set pieces that'd make Uncharted blush. Being the one-man-army may sound last gen, but lets face it . . . it can be done incredibly well nowadays with effort put into it. Look at Bulletstorm for example.

And this is Duke we're talking about. Or, well . . . WERE talking about . . . this game is NOTHING like old school. It's like last gen. If it was old school, it'd be perfect. I never thought I'd say this, but Duke Nukem needs to take a page from Serious Sam.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Low regenerating health? It's even too much, DN3D had NO f***ing regenerating health, just health packs! OTOH most weapons were really badass. But you had to quickly plan your attacks against more than a few enemies, it was badass, but intelligent, not mindless.
