Forums - Nintendo - WiiU to only support 1 tablet controller?? Miyamoto speaks...

So you can only use (1) per console and you can not buy them seperately?

So what happens if the tablet breaks?

I don't want to play primarily with Wiimotes again, not to mention (1) tablet per system pretty much throws so much potential out the window.

I'm sure you will be able to buy replacements from the Nintendo online store.

Also, I have faith that Nintendo will hear our pleads/complaints, if they are indeed thinking of only supporting one tablet controller

I hope they hear them too! It is the reason I am bitching!

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

I suspect that this is one of those things where consumer reaction will change their opinion ...

While I doubt we will see 4 controller support, I don't think they would have too many problems supporting a second controller.

split screen is hard enough for a lot of developers to pull off.  rendering 5 screens would be really computationally expensive i would imagine.  so while i can understand nintendo's decision -- i can't say that i'm happy about it.

After giving it another thought, I can't think of a situation where both the TV and all the controller screens would have to show a complex scene. Surely the controller screens will only show auxiliary information, or else they're all the player should be looking at (in which case the TV can show just some simple information or a mix of all the screens, which are already being rendered anyway).

Imagine a Mario Kart for the Wii U for example, everyone would be focusing on their own screen and the TV doesn't need to have its own render. This might make the 4 controller renders feasible, assuming they don't have a really high resolution.

It really looks like local multiplayer could be the killer app for this controller, people really need to pressure Nintendo on this.

there was that demo where they were playing baseball and the WiiU controller was showing the same info as what was on the screen expect it had the cross hairs to aim the pitch.   i can imagine, for instanse, a 4x player shooter (probably rail shooter) simular to this where you would want all 5 screens with detailed complex information.

now if you stayed with Wii ___ level of graphics you might be able to pull it off well enought but not with say CoD level of graphics i'd guess.

But adding the cross hairs can be done with post-processing, you don't need to render twice. For a 4-player shooter I don't see why the TV would need to be showing its own 3D render... It would be enough to show statistics and other mostly 2D game information.

I'm disappointed by this news. I wonder if Nintendo will at least consider about two players at the same time.

i don't know enough about programing to be answering the question but it would seem to me that if the 4 screens show 4 different things it would require 4 different renders.

Yes that's definitely correct. What I was saying is that the biggest, most demanding of the screens (the TV) wouldn't need much processing power if everyone is looking at their own smaller screen.

Im thinking nintendo will support 2 and you will be able to buy them. Though since the console would only support 2 controllers the maybe 80+ price would be such a problem since you would only be buying one second controller.

If the TV isn't showing much  what is the point of having a console ?

You might as well playing multiplayer with 4 3DS...

The TV screen has to stay the core display or suddenly it's a portable gaming console...

Basically the issue with going the way Nintendo is going is that suddenly you're going to have a console with a very expensive controller that isn't even self sufficient, the controller need help from the core system to work... How to extend this to more than one controller is going to be a very tough economical and technical problem to solve........
