I suspect that this is one of those things where consumer reaction will change their opinion ...

While I doubt we will see 4 controller support, I don't think they would have too many problems supporting a second controller.

split screen is hard enough for a lot of developers to pull off.  rendering 5 screens would be really computationally expensive i would imagine.  so while i can understand nintendo's decision -- i can't say that i'm happy about it.

After giving it another thought, I can't think of a situation where both the TV and all the controller screens would have to show a complex scene. Surely the controller screens will only show auxiliary information, or else they're all the player should be looking at (in which case the TV can show just some simple information or a mix of all the screens, which are already being rendered anyway).

Imagine a Mario Kart for the Wii U for example, everyone would be focusing on their own screen and the TV doesn't need to have its own render. This might make the 4 controller renders feasible, assuming they don't have a really high resolution.

It really looks like local multiplayer could be the killer app for this controller, people really need to pressure Nintendo on this.

there was that demo where they were playing baseball and the WiiU controller was showing the same info as what was on the screen expect it had the cross hairs to aim the pitch.   i can imagine, for instanse, a 4x player shooter (probably rail shooter) simular to this where you would want all 5 screens with detailed complex information.

now if you stayed with Wii ___ level of graphics you might be able to pull it off well enought but not with say CoD level of graphics i'd guess.
