Forums - Nintendo - Dual Analog FPS on WiiU?

If Nintendo truly wants to sway xbox and ps gamers to it's new system, I think it's important they provide tablet controller and classic controller support as well as wiimote for wii fans. Why shouldn't we gets the best of both worlds? Its all up to the devs, lets hope they aren't as blind and lazy with WiiU as they were with the Wii

please watch the video I linked above. It's just a dual analog shooter, no matter how you look at it. I'm sure you've played those... and most people think it is an inferior setup to wiimote/wiimote plus. Just look at the cumbersome, jumpy motions they player's reticule makes when in first person mode... that's not even possible with pointer controls..

The only shooter I played that used a gamepad was Killer7. I usually play on the PC. While I did have high accuracy in Killer7, I agree that Wiimote&Nunchuck is better.

You sure that wasn't due to recoil? Or that the game may be in the early stages of development?

And I just thought of a way the WiiU controller could be used. You would have it so the screen was parallel to the TV screen and you would see in the screen like through a sniper scope. You could turn around and the image on the screen would turn with you. Pulling the controller towards you would zoom in, while pushing it away would zoom out, or you could assign this to buttons. This would mostly work on long range and not when there were a lot of enemies around you. But I think it would be neat.

This was already shown during Nintendo's presentation as a demo for WiiU being integrated with the Zapper....

you can see it here in this video in the Iwata Asks interview.

edit: make sure you watch the concept video and not the interview at the top of the page.

Sadly, the page won't finish loading for me. Maybe it will work later.

I agree with you that Wii games will most likely still work with regular wiimotes. Regarding everything else, I think you're missing the point of the thread. If you look at the video in question on youtube, it just seems like a huge step backwards...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GN7vwti5RyA

I didn't see that video until now. I don't like dual analog either, played MW and RE5 with a friend on Xbox and my aim is worse*. The thing is, this is Nintendo aiming for the consumer who doesn't like the wiimote, who likes dual analog, this is Wii U. It's trying to have both Wii players and competing console players. It depends on the developer like Rohin has said, so they could have wii controls along side it, this is similar to other Wii shooters which have classic control options (maybe it's "backwards"). Everyone is focusing on the new controller, so all main interactions come from it, we just need announcements from developers.

While typing this I noticed, that Nintendo's new controller may seem backwards at first. With it's "hardcore" orientation (dual analog, lots of buttons, triggers), but if you saw the other uses during their presentation video you see it can have a "casual" orientation also, meaning the controller is going to be used the fusion of both. There might be bigger third-party support this time(with hopefully wiimote support), so they finally might support the "Wii" at last.

*Site story:  We both had problems in RE5, there was a section you are in a rotating platform and had to shoot enemies at the distance... we used up all our ammo and enemies where still standing due to our bad aim.

There is nothing wrong with the original uses they showed for the controller. They all look cool, but I'm not giving up pointer controls. Also, I like having a split controller whenever I can. As long as most games support both play-styles that is fine. Otherwise maybe I should just get a ps3, it already has more cool FPS games that support pointer-aiming than the Wii (I am including the games sony showed this week).

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

Other Controls: Up to four Wii Remote™ (or Wii Remote Plus) controllers can be connected at once. The new console supports all Wii™ controllers and input devices, including the Nunchuk™ controller, Classic ControllerTM, Classic Controller ProTM and Wii Balance Board™.

Come on gumby, it's just like the Wii, of course there will be software made just for the motion plus and other's made for the standard wiimote. They are giving developers all the options.

It'd be best to force people to upgrade to motion plus, but instead of a hardware limitation let them do it with software (still want more motion plus games).

You may be right, but I can't imagine Nintendo making an effort to support the regular Wii remote unless they have to. Also, this excerpt from Iwata Asks is behind some of the ambiguity regarding whether or not WiiU games would work without motion-plus. It can be read as if Iwata is correcting Miyamoto, or clarifying, I don't know for sure.

Once again let me just restate that it's not this issue in particular which has me disappointed in general, rather a large collection of issues, not the least of which is the fact that it seems Wii is dead, and any motion-plus support at all will probably be moved to WiiU... To me it feels like Nintendo has not delivered on their promise to consumers, and are now asking me to pay up again in order to get what I thought I was getting the first time...

Miyamoto:

So when I think about it within the concept of bringing the Wii to a place that's further ahead, I think it's fine the way it is now aside from how we wanted to add an independent screen like with this new controller. The other thing was we wanted to make the switch to HD. But I had no hesitation in going that direction. Right now I'm planning that people can still be able to use their Wii Remote controllers that they already have, which means this time you now have five controllers to play with.

Iwata:

You mean this new controller, and four Wii Remote Plus controllers for a total of five.

woah, wait a minute, what?!?

i may be reading too much into this statement but is that implying that the wii U is compatiable with only one of the new controllers at a time ala wii and the balance board???

Or just look at this screen cap

That looks more suited for an on-rails shooter than a FPS.

You think so? Apart from pointing the IR to the screen, remember you can move around outside the TV with the gyroscopes and still view the game through the "scope", some people have called it lika window. I think that can be really cool in an FPS.

that's a very important issue that has been brought up by the press as well. Bottom line, we don't know...

I can't find the link atm but there was also a thread on this... Nintendo are shipping the console with one tablet and currently have no plans on selling additional tablets separately, probably due to cost.

However there was a developer in Nintendo that said during an interview they are still thinking about making games for more than one tablet... probably will be the exception rather than the rule though...

That's what I hope so also, I came back to gaming because of the remote, and I don't want it to become the second option. If not, it becomes a PS3 just like you said. We just have to wait and see, and decide.

Okay, so the Wii U is compatable with all other Wii games. How would you play games like Metroid Prime: Corruption on the Wii U controller, because those games require the Wii Remote. How would that happen?

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

Maybe because the WiiU is compatible with the Wii Remote?
