being gay a choice vs born that way.

It's a lifestyle choice 120 25.53%

Your born that way 250 53.19%

no opinion 36 7.66%

other---for anything I missed 62 13.19%

Total:468

I don't care, tbh. Many people use this argument to justify denying/granting rights to gay people, and IMO whether they are born that way or it's a choice, it shouldn't matter, everyone should have the same rights.

Trying to answer the question... I don't know, I'm not an expert in biology/psychology/sociology or whatever. Maybe it's both, and some are born that way and some others change later in life.

Gay people should answer this question though.

Why no option for Both?  I think in some circumstances it could be an imballance in the body or other alteration that you have from birth, while in other circumstances I am sure it is still entirely a choice.

i and many others personally notice that gays are usually funny, fashionable, qwerky, etc. sometimes you can be 90% sure of someone's sexuality just by looking at them

going on the basis that we are all bi to some degree, just say we have two men; both are 50/50 bi.

man 1 has been brought up in a traditional, religious background. he has been taught a lot of history, does not swear, does not watch reality tv etc

man 2 has been brought up in a free environment, likes to party, likes bouncing music, swears etc

i think that man 2 is more likely to opt for gay relationships because his lifestyle and the way he has been brought up identifies with the typical 'gay' image more

its late at night here, im very tired, and im spacing out to some good house music here, so im probably getting my point across horribly here. basically, you choose things in life that you feel identify with your personality (and your personality is part based on your environment). for example if i saw myself as a gangster, i am more likely to wear a slick suit than someone who does not see themselves as a gangster

And I know gay men who are  nothing like that. Those are just stereotypes. People who fit them are also more likely to be out. Others just conform  to them in order to be accepted in the gay community (it's actually not as accepting of diversity sometimes, mainly due to all the sterotypes that have been associated to homosexual identity, like the ones yopu mentioned).

What's this point of the bi guy thing? The religious guy is less likely to wind up in a same sex relationship because his religiosu beleifs will torture him and make him repress his true self.

Personality is itself a complex thing, but that's a whole other topic. I think a person would go with who they find attractive, regardless if they fit in some silly stereotype or not. You should be in a romantic relationship with someone because you like them and find them attractive, not because you like drinking beer and playing sports, or fashion and Madonna.

Can you CHOOSE to be attracted to someone?

This is quite true. In this whole debate, gays and the people supporting them forget this thing.

To say it's an outright choice nothing else makes no sense when so many people who are would choice not to be.

To say it's only genetic doesn't seem to work either otherwise why don't all identical twins where one is gay both are?

I'd have had the option environmental myself and an option for multiple factors.

Personally I'm thinking it's a combo of environmental and genetic. Even with genetic though it's not so much a gay gene as it is fluctuations in hormones in the mother before birth.

This thread is a piece of shit, populated in part by morons. Please close it down. It's not off topic, it's offensive.

Yes... can't you?  Just as I can choose to be not attracted to someone for various reasons.

Especially in the situation where people are bi-sexual. Clearly they have a choice there in which they would rather be with at the time, or they can still choose both lol

Well, I can keep staring at Rosie O'Donnel, but man no matter how much I want to, I just can't find her attractive.I think you (like many people) confuse ATTRACTION with ACTION. Sure, I could CHOOSE to hit on Rosio O'Donnel, put a condom on, and rock her world while thinking I'm doing Angelina Jolie. However I cannot CHOOSE to be ATTRACTED to her.

Bisexuals do have a choice of which gender to pursue, but they themselves cannot CHOOSE to be ATTRACTED to someone.

It's a fact people are not born gay as babies come out crying.
