This is a supposed "controller leak."  I in no way believe this is real, but I do think the final design is probably going to look pretty similar.  I think it'll be a lot more minimalistic then people think, and it will not be the sort of thing that should bother the expanded market.  The standard gaming controls can pretty much be ignored when you ahve a shiney screen in your hand flashing "touch me here to see stuff happen!"

while better than the other mock ups i've seen i'm still 100% confident that my mother (wii only console she's ever owned) wouldn't touch that.

on the plus side -- assuming it is a touch screen mario paint is all but confirmed already.

Are the controllers going to have built in headphone jacks and/or speakers?

I'd say both... but that's just speculation based on the same reason you are asking.

has that feature been confirmed?  assuming yes it will be interesting so see how the mainstream reacts to it.  personally i couldn't care less, i have multiple tvs .. one for tv and one for games, both can do netflix/movies.  also remember, the "streaming" controller won't be for motion games meaning a lot of the "expanded" audience won't care for it.

and as nintendo fans have always told me -- it is all about the games.  third party support that is mostly ports of ps360 games isn't very compelling either.

While the screen has not been confirmed, I think with as much out there on it, it should be.

i meant the streaming to controllers part lol, i've pretty much taken the screen part as fact at this point. xD

You're right with multiple TVs... however, that means having to have multiple consoles. But with this idea, one console can benefit multiple people at same time.

eh?  unless nintendo abandons disks althougth you'll all still have to be playing the same game (only one disk in the console at a time) and even with digital i doubt nintendo can get enough power at an affordable level to run and stream multiple games at a time to the controllers.  unless of course each controller is a full console on it's own meaning controllers will cost >$150 a piece which would be a be fail imo.

Motion games will still be included as I think it will be fully compatable with current Wiimote and many of the highest selling games (like NSMB) don't need motion.. an accelerometer is all that was needed... and that could have been a button really.

what i meant is the wiimote can be used with the new hardware but you'll still need the TV to use them. the streaming to the controllers functionallity you are touting can't be used for wiimote based games.

As for the games, yes it is all about the games. However, having a bigger selection is never bad. Adding in the best of the 3rd parties along with Nintendo's own greatness means a perfect system. It won't be simply, crappy, low-end ports. It would be more like PS360 now, nearly identical ports with potentially a few extra features to take advantage of the screen.

again, great for wii-only owners who upgrade but for the 100M plus ps360 owners it's not compelling.  as a lot of wii owners already have a ps360 in their household the appeal seems limited.

see above  -- and yes you can call me a naysayer.

I understand your basic argument now. However, I think the streaming idea will be great for many simultaneous actions. Obviousely two disc based games at same time are out as well as a game dependent on motion/IR.

As for current PS360 owners, they are core owners. THey typically own more than one console anyways and if this new set of features is as awesome as I think it is, the ports will be far more robust, featured, and graphiczzz on the new system.

I don't think your mom would shy away from this. Its no that much more complicated than the massively popular touch devices out now. Additionally, the new device will still have a Wiimoteplus and offer tons of new multimedia functionality. That additional set of features will pull in the mass consumer/casual user far more than a slightly more complicated controller based on the idea in the pic.

Wouldn't this diminish the idea of having a handheld?

No.

Nintendo always keeps their devices unique enough to warrant separate purchases. Notice that even though Pokemon is insanely popular it never has a main game line on a home console?

Beyond specific games, the console can offer experiences the handheld simply can't. It has far more power and thus will have games just not possible on a 3DS/NGP.

Plus, on the console side, its limited to the range of the wireless technology, whereas a portable console can go anywhere and is only limited by its battery.

I love the multi-streaming idea

Hmm, I don't know if I like the look of the analogue sticks personally.
