Forums - Nintendo - What does Samus mean to you?

Honestly, I'm pretty much indifferent to her. As a character, she (like most video game characters) just isn't all that interesting to me. Well, not since I got past the initial 'OMG I WAS PLAYING AS A GURRLL?!' phase.

I really wouldn't care if Nintendo decided to replace Samus with a new protagonist. In fact, I'd encourage it, since the Metroid canon is starting to get way too convoluted. (Though Sakamoto would probably fight to the death before letting that happen. )

Honestly Metroid canon isn't that convuluted, at least as far as them making a new game is concerned, because at this point they've fairly exhausted any options aside from a chronological sequel to Fusion, and the only story stumbling-block that would have to deal with is whether the weird look of the Fusion suit is permanent or not (and it would be easy enough to come up with any number of explanations for why Samus yet again reverted back to a normal looking suit)

Given that Other M was a prequel to Fusion, it largely just served to fill in more of what Fusion set forth (that some guy called Adam Malkovich used to be Samus' CO, meaning Samus used to be in the military, and that said Adam died at some point, all of which Other M fleshed out and resolved)

While we're exploring back-stories, i'd like to see the next game address her time with the Chozo in some way  (or at least moreso than Prime did)

Interestingly, I have thought at length about the mythology and universe of Metroid and have come to this conclusion: the series is one of the FEW Nintendo titles that might actually have to have a definitive ending. Oh yeah, I said it. i actually wonder if that's why Sakamoto didn't make a sequel to Fusion because he might actually have to bring the series to a close with it

They could always do more episodic mini-series like Prime, except set in the future rather than as Metroid II prequels, crop up a new threat, explore it a few different ways, end the threat, move on.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Agree with CGI, to me is the best Nintendo character. Even, one of the best in the industry.

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

Apparently she has bones that can spontaneously turn to jello while she rolls into a tiny ball, and then re-harden. That alone makes her the most bad-ass bounty hunter around.

She is the best bounty hunter in the galaxy.  She takes on the jobs that the Federation themselves can't complete, and she gets the job done.

the comparison to Motoko Kusanag is spot on

thats the type of person i thought of her as

minus the bisexauality.......or maybe....?

I've always seen her as an avatar for me to inhabit, although I must admit that I see most video game characters as such. I have a way of focusing more on the world around me/the character than on the main character him/herself. I suppose this is why Metroid Prime (and its sequels) pulled me in as a player with ease. Samus could have been anyone, but more importantly she allowed me to be, well... me. I explored the world at my own pace, took in the sights and sounds. Battled the monsters, saved the day, etc.

Playing Super Metroid/Zero Mission really was no different either. I was Samus, and Samus was me. I'm the one that explored Tallon IV and took down the Space Pirates and Mother Brain. The story explained in text at the beginning and end made little difference for me.

So yeah, I think little of Samus outside of the games in which I play as her. I do the same thing for Mario, Link, Donkey Kong, Sonic, and a multitude of other characters. For the most part, they're avatars for me to fill and explore the worlds they were made for. Sure, in some cases (like Samus I suppose), it's not what the creator of the series intended I did with the character, but ya know, it works for me. *shrugs*

Granted we have zero hint of Samus' sexuality (and definitely a direction i'd never want them to pursue in canon, it got muddy enough placing a guy as a father figure), but all the Samus x Zelda femslash out there paints a hopeful picture ;)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

The perfect woman. Doesn't talk back and does whatever you tell her to, even if she gets slapped for it.

Really though, she was pretty cool until she opened her mouth and started talking in Other M.
