Forums - Nintendo - Capcom's Wii Support

Why don't people get a wii for nintendo games and a ps3 or xbox 360 for third party games (e.g., Capcom's SFIV...)?

Also, LP2 et al. were also released on pc which was another source of income. Though a crap game is a crap game and I certainly hope Capcom didn't get much of a profit (if any) out of those games.

Another thing...it may be that developers prefer to make games for the HD consoles over the Wii. It will be interesting whether developers will make games move/kinect compatible or simply stick wth what is tried and true.

Either way, the issue of 3rd party games has plagued the wii ever since its release. I sure hope Nintendo will workout a way to fix it for next gen.

The problem is the public chose the Wii, and as third parties sell games to the public, they are supposed to go where the public chooses. That's how business works, unless you want your company to stagnate and finally collapse. And history of all businesses show that will happen unless they change their ways.

any chance of getting a port of revelations on Wii?

Since Revelations looks like a proper Resident Evil game (it's not a numbered one, but it has the same gameplay as part 4 and 5), I would say zero chance.

There's a rule to Wii development and it forbids to put your best on the console. While publishers are allowed to use their big name IPs, this only goes for ports of last generation games (Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition), spinoffs (Soul Calibur Legends), watered down versions (Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit) or brands that have no prestige on the HD consoles (Lego games).

The only exception to this rule is Nintendo paying up (Monster Hunter Tri, Dragon Quest X)

When you put it that way it almost sounds like there is some kind of logic behind the way they are working... you know, creating demand for 3rd party franchises by slowly releasing only side-games? leaving the audience clamoring for more?

Only problem with that plan is that in order for it to work eventually you have to cash in...

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

@lordtheknight just cause the "public" chose the Wii that doenst mean that every genre out there is viable, anybody stop to think that maybe some of these games that people are so hard on for WIi is just done better and does better on the HDs/PCs??? YOur outlook is too black & white, maybe most of the Wii owners have another gaming system and will most likely choose to support what is generally going to be the better version on HDs.  THis whole us "Wii gamers" is nonsense, i gaunrentee that the vast majortiy does not care. For everyone guy that has his "convictions" im sure there are five more that said "this is crap im going get a PS360, so i can play the gams i want to"

They have to be put on the Wii in appreciable numbers to show what actually does better, not just throw a few token games and expect them to do well compared to the dozens of games for any genre on the other systems.

EDIT: And as proof, the music genre got the same support on the Wii, and the sales, both good and bad, are comparable to the other systems. Or take the Lego games, which prestige or not sell well (not equally, but well) on all systems, due to actually being on all systems.

Isn't that exactly the same as what you and many others say about Wii flops? Dead Rising for Wii was atrocious, yet you can't seem to stop talking about how big a flop that game was...

Well if people are gonna talk about Capcom HD flops then people are gonna play the Dead Rising and other Wii flops card.

And vice versa.

The truth is, many games flop, and there is always a good reason to explain why a game has flopped. Blaming it on a console and its userbase is meaningless and annoying. I know you like to blame Nintendo for everything that's wrong in the industry, but that all comes down to fanboy wars which I would advice you to stay out of.

I think it comes from an inability to take any responsibility for their screwups. A game doesn't sell that well on the Wii and DS, blame the system. A game flops on the other systems, find some other excuse (like whine that a hit game is syphoning sales)*.

Fact is if you make a game to appeal to a few million people, and they don't like what they see**, you screwed up by making something they don't like.

* I don't think hit games syphon sales. If anything, they make a better market. Sure third party exercise games on the Wii don't match the sales of Wii fit, but how many managed to sell even as well as they did on any system before Wii fit?

** I'm counting good marketing, and good word of mouth, depending on if openings and/or legs matter to you.

I'm still convinced that Capcom had an internal bet on who could come up with the stupidest name for a Wii game.

Tanooki Suit v Capcom or Zacky Wacky's Quest for Barabbas' Treasure.

@lordtheknight  how about, spiderman SD, SWFU2, princeofpersia, COD, Tomb Raider, multiplat games sell better on HDs, unless that game is geared toward the family friendly , like Lego, Disney, SOnic

Lego, Disney, and Sonic are about some of the only series that are considered at least as good on the Wii, along with the aforementioned music games. How hard is that to understand?

And are you forgetting the breakthrough CoD game skipped the Wii for two years? And that the Wii versions have little marketing? Wii owners weren't going to magically buy a game they didn't know is even on the system.
